Yesterday, I decided to get into oolong brewing. I’ve always loved the taste of oolong tea, so I figured, why not try making it myself?

Getting Started

First, I gathered my supplies. I already had a nice little teapot and some cups, so I mainly needed the tea itself. I went to a local tea shop. They had tons of options, but I picked out a classic Tieguanyin oolong. The person at the shop told me it has a nice, floral aroma, so that sounded good to me.

The Brewing Process

  • I heated up some water. I didn’t want it boiling, just really hot. I think I messed this part up.
  • I put a good amount of the oolong leaves into my teapot. I probably used a bit too much, honestly.
  • Then I poured the hot water over the leaves. I let it steep for a few minutes. The instructions said 3-5 minutes, but I kind of just guessed.
  • I am very happy because i just realized my lovely teapot has a built-in strainer!

The Result

Finally, I poured the tea into my cup. It looked a bit darker than I expected, but it still smelled really good. I took a sip, and…wow! It was strong, And a little bitter. I think I let it steep for too long, or maybe I used too many leaves. The tea have strong fragrance, It’s not bad.

It was a fun experiment! I’m definitely going to try brewing oolong again, but next time I’ll pay closer attention to the steeping time and maybe use a few less leaves.
