Mickey Mouse Tea Set: Find the Perfect One for Your Little One!

Okay, so I saw this super cute Mickey Mouse tea set online the other day, and I just had to try and make one myself. I’m not the craftiest person, but I figured, how hard could it be, right?

Gathering My Supplies

First things first, I needed supplies. I went total scavenger hunt mode around my house. Here’s what I pulled together:

  • Some plain white ceramic teacups and saucers I had lying around (score!).
  • Red, black, and yellow acrylic paint – because, Mickey!
  • A few different-sized paintbrushes. I grabbed some skinny ones for the details.
  • Some painter’s tape. I’m not exactly known for my steady hand, so this was crucial.
  • A pencil. For sketching out the design, obvi.
  • Mod Podge – I wanted to seal it to make it durable.

Prepping the Teacups

I washed and dried the teacups and saucers to make sure they were super clean. No dust bunnies allowed on my masterpiece!

The Mickey-fication Process

This is where things got real. I lightly sketched Mickey’s classic silhouette on the teacups, mostly I drew mickey’s head. Trying to keep it simple, you know? Then I carefully taped off the areas I wanted to paint red, like the bottom half of the cups, to mimic Mickey’s shorts. It was easier to start simple.

I painted the red parts first, let that dry completely, and then removed the tape. I used a smaller brush to paint on the two yellow “buttons”. I used black paint to draw Mickey’s head.

Then, the details! I used my thinnest brush and black paint to carefully outline Mickey’s head and fill in the * was much easier than I thought it would be. I drew the head and ears on the cups and saucers, but didn’t draw anything on the teapots.

Sealing the Deal

Once the paint was completely dry (I waited like, a whole day, just to be safe), I brushed on a couple of coats of Mod Podge. This stuff is supposed to protect the paint and make it, you know, not wash off the first time I use the set.

The Grand Reveal

And…it’s done! It’s not perfect, the lines of the mickey head could be better, but it’s definitely got that homemade, “I tried my best” charm. I’m actually pretty proud of how it turned out! It’s super cute, and it makes me smile every time I look at it. Now I just need to find some friends to have a totally adorable tea party with!
