Then there’s them stores that sell new stuff. They got sets with all sorts of pieces. I seen one set had 44 pieces! Imagine that! Little girls, they love them princess tea time sets, all pink and frilly. Some of ’em got desserts, too. Fake cakes and cookies, but the kids don’t care. It’s all ’bout the pretendin’, see? And they got sets for boys, too. Don’t you go thinkin’ tea sets is just for girls. Everyone can have a pretend tea party.

• Some sets are made outta porcelain. That’s the fancy stuff, like what your grandma used to have. Only smaller, of course.
• Some are wooden. Them’s sturdy, good for the little ones who like to bang things around. Melissa and Doug, they make good wooden ones, I hear.
• And then there’s plastic. Lightweight and cheap, that’s the plastic. Easy to clean, too, which is a blessing for the mamas.
• Oh, and I almost forgot! They even got silicone ones now. For babies, I guess? Or maybe for playing in the bath? Kids these days, they got everything!

You can even find tea sets with cake stands! And dessert play food. Some come in a fancy case, all ready to go. It’s like a whole tea party in a box. And if you got a little girl who likes Alice in Wonderland, well, they got tea sets for that, too. I tell ya, they thought of everything.

Now, way back when, they used to make these little dishes, even way before I was born. Hundreds of years ago, they say. But they really got popular ’bout a hundred and fifty years back, especially for little girls. And it ain’t just us here in America. Over in China, they got these fancy tea ceremony sets. They got all sorts of tools, little scoops and funnels and things. It’s a whole big deal over there.

And let me tell ya, these tea sets ain’t goin’ outta style anytime soon. More and more folks are drinkin’ tea these days, and that means more kids are gonna want tea sets to play with. So, if you’re lookin’ for a gift for a little one, a childrens play tea set ain’t a bad idea. It’ll keep ‘em busy for hours, and who knows, maybe they’ll even learn some manners while they’re at it.
