tea ceremony
Alright, let’s talk about brewing tea, you know, the stuff you drink when you want somethin’ warm in your belly. I ain’t no fancy tea expert or nothin’, but I know how to make a good cuppa, the way my grandma taught me.
First off, you gotta get yourself a teapot. Not just any ol’ pot, mind you. You need one that’s made for tea. Don’t go usin’ the one you cook your stew in, that just ain’t right. Grandma always said a good teapot is like a good friend, it’ll keep your secrets and your tea warm. A real teapot, not somethin’ you put on the stove.
Now, the water. Some folks say you gotta use fancy filtered water, but I just use what comes outta the tap. It’s always worked for me. But you do gotta boil it, and boil it good. Grandma said the water needs to be jumpin’ and dancin’ before you pour it on them leaves. And you know what, she was right.
Then comes the tea itself. There’s all kinds of tea out there, more than you can shake a stick at, I tell ya. Black tea, green tea, that flowery stuff… I stick to the plain ol’ black tea myself. It’s strong and gets you goin’ in the mornin’. But you pick whatever you like. Just make sure it’s fresh, not somethin’ that’s been sittin’ in the cupboard since last year.
So, you got your teapot, your boilin’ water, and your tea. Now what? Well, you put the tea in the pot, of course. How much tea? That depends. I usually put in a good handful, maybe two if I’m feelin’ extra tired. Grandma always said, “Don’t be stingy with the tea, child. Life’s too short for weak tea.” And she was right about that too.
Then you pour the hot water over the leaves. Not too fast, not too slow, just right. You want the water to cover all the leaves and let ‘em steep. Steepin’ is just a fancy word for lettin’ the tea sit in the water and do its thing. How long you steep it is up to you. I like my tea strong, so I let it sit for a good five minutes, maybe longer if I get distracted by the chickens or somethin’. But if you like it weaker, you can take the leaves out sooner. It’s all about what you like.
And that’s pretty much it. Once it’s steeped, you pour the tea into a cup and drink it. I like to add a little bit of milk and sugar to mine, but some folks like it plain. Again, it’s all about what you like. Don’t let nobody tell you how to drink your tea. You do it your way.
Now, some folks get all fancy with their tea. They got special thermometers and timers and all sorts of gadgets. I say, you don’t need all that fuss. Just a good teapot, some boilin’ water, and some tea. That’s all you need to make a good cuppa. And maybe a little bit of love. Grandma always said the most important ingredient in any recipe is love. And I think she was right about that too.
So, there you have it. My way of brewin’ tea. It ain’t fancy, but it’s good. It’s warm and comforting, and it’ll chase away the chills on a cold day. And that’s all that matters, right? A good cup of tea to warm your soul. Just like grandma used to make. Give it a try, and see if you don’t agree. And if you don’t like it, well, more for me!
And don’t you go forgettin’, cleanin’ that teapot is important too. Just rinse it out good after each use and let it air dry. Don’t go usin’ no soap, that’ll ruin the flavor. Just hot water and maybe a little scrub if it needs it. Take care of your teapot, and it’ll take care of you.
Anyways, that’s enough talkin’ about tea. I gotta go feed them chickens now. You all stay warm, and drink plenty of tea. It’ll do ya good.
