ginger tea
Alright, let’s talk about this… uh… cold brew white tea thing. Never heard of it before, but my grandkid told me it’s the new hot thing, or should I say cold thing? Ha! Anyways, they say it’s good for you, so I figured, why not give it a whirl? Can’t hurt an old woman like me, right?
So, first things first, you gotta get yourself some of that white tea. The fancy folks call it “white leaf tea,” but it’s just tea, far as I’m concerned. My grandkid got me some, looks like little dried leaves, nothin’ special. Now, you need somethin’ to put it in. They say a big glass teapot or a pitcher is good. I just grabbed this big ol’ jar I use for pickled beets, cleaned it out good, of course. Don’t want no beet juice in my tea, that’s for sure!
Next, you gotta put the tea in the jar. How much? Well, that’s where it gets tricky. This recipe my grandkid gave me talks about “teaspoons” and “ounces.” Honestly, I don’t got time for all that measuring. I just dumped a good handful in, maybe two. Figure that oughta do it. More or less, it’ll be tea, won’t it? If it’s too strong, I’ll just add more water later. If it’s too weak, well, I’ll drink it anyway, I ain’t wastin’ nothin’.
Now, the water. Just use regular ol’ water, nothin’ fancy. Cold water, mind you, that’s the whole point of this “cold brew” thing, I guess. Fill up that jar, or whatever you’re usin’, all the way to the top. Then, you just gotta let it sit. Yeah, that’s right, just sit there. No boilin’, no fussin’, just let it sit. My grandkid says to put it in the fridge, so I did. Said it needs to sit for a long time, like overnight, or even longer. I left it in there for two days, almost forgot about it, to be honest.
After a couple of days, it was time to try this cold brew white tea. I took the jar out of the fridge, and it looked… well, it looked like tea-water. Nothin’ fancy, just clear-ish water. I poured myself a glass. Took a sip. Hmm… it was… smooth. Yeah, that’s the word, smooth. Not bitter like that coffee my husband used to drink, just smooth and kinda… sweet, in a way. Not sugary sweet, but just… nice. I added a little bit of honey to it, cause I like my tea sweet, you know?
My grandkid says this cold brew white tea is supposed to be full of these things called “an-tee-ox-i-dants.” Sounds fancy, but they say it’s good for keepin’ you healthy. Well, I don’t know about that, but it tastes good, and that’s good enough for me. Keeps me from drinkin’ too much of that sugary soda, I guess. This tea is easy on my stomach, doesn’t give me the jitters like that strong coffee does.
And you know what else? You can add other stuff to it, make it taste different. My grandkid showed me some fancy ones with dried berries and stuff. I tried it with a little bit of lemon juice, and it was real good! You can use whatever you like, I guess. That’s the beauty of it, you make it your own way. No need for fancy recipes or special equipment. Just tea, water, and a little bit of patience.
So, there you have it. That’s how this old woman makes cold brew white tea. It ain’t rocket science, that’s for sure. Just simple, good tea. Try it yourself, you might like it. And if you don’t, well, more for me! Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m gonna go sit on the porch and enjoy a glass of this here tea. It’s a hot day, and this cold tea is just the ticket. Stay cool, y’all.
One more thing, they say this fancy cold brew tea is better than hot tea because it doesn’t get bitter. I don’t know about all that, but it sure is easy to make. And that’s what matters to me. Easy and good. That’s my motto.
