- English Breakfast Tea and Black Tea: A Simple Guide to the Differences
Well, let me tell ya somethin’ about this English Breakfast tea and black tea. Folks make it sound all fancy, but it ain’t that complicated, ya know?
First off, black tea, that’s like the big ol’ family of teas. Lots of different kinds, like them apples in the orchard, some sweet, some tart. It’s just tea leaves, all dried up and turned dark. They pick ’em, let ’em sit around ’til they get all dark and then dry ’em up. That’s all there is to it. You got all sorts, some strong, some not so much. Kinda like people, I reckon.
Now, English Breakfast tea, that’s a bit more… particular. It’s like when you’re makin’ a stew, you don’t just throw in any old thing, right? You pick certain meats and veggies to make it taste just right. English Breakfast tea is like that. It’s a mix of different black teas, usually put together so it’s strong and gets ya goin’ in the mornin’. They say it’s got Assam and some other kinds in it. Sounds fancy, but it’s just tea, plain and simple.
Some folks say English Breakfast tea is kinda like coffee, got that strong taste. I don’t drink much coffee myself, too bitter for my taste. But this English Breakfast, it’s got a kick, for sure. They say it’s got a bit of this, a bit of that – malty, bitter, even a little sweet. Honestly, tastes like tea to me, but strong tea. Good with a bit of milk and sugar, though. Makes it go down smoother, you know?
They say English Breakfast tea started way back when, in them fancy tea houses. Guess folks needed somethin’ strong to wake ’em up. Just like us farmers need a good cup of somethin’ to get us goin’ before dawn. Don’t know nothin’ ’bout no tea houses, but I know a good cuppa when I taste one.
The big difference, I figure, is that black tea is the whole shebang, and English Breakfast is just one special kind of black tea. Like sayin’ you got animals, and then sayin’ you got cows. Cows are animals, but not all animals are cows, right? Same thing with tea. Black tea is the whole bunch, and English Breakfast is just one part of it.
Now, some folks like to get all hoity-toity about tea, talkin’ ’bout “full-bodied” and “undertones.” To me, it’s either good tea or it ain’t. And English Breakfast, well, it’s good tea. Strong, gets you movin’, that’s what matters. And it goes good with milk, which is a plus in my book.
They say English Breakfast tea is made with broken leaves, so it makes a stronger cuppa. Makes sense, I guess. More little bits, more flavor steppin’ out into the water. Like when you chop up your vegetables real small for soup, they cook faster and give more flavor.
And there’s this Irish Breakfast tea too. Sounds mighty similar to English Breakfast, don’t it? They say it’s made with the same kinda teas. Guess them Irish folks like a strong cuppa just as much as the English do. Can’t blame ’em. A good strong cup of tea, that’s a comfort, no matter where you’re from.
So, there ya have it. Black tea is the big family, and English Breakfast tea is one special member, known for bein’ strong and good with milk. Nothin’ too fancy, just good, plain tea. Don’t let them city folks with their fancy words fool ya, it ain’t rocket science. Just boil some water, pour it over the leaves, and enjoy. That’s all there is to it, I reckon.
