gallon tea bags

Today, I want to talk about something simple but incredibly useful: making a big batch of iced tea using gallon tea bags. You know, sometimes you just need a lot of tea, whether it’s for a party, a family gathering, or just to have in the fridge for the week. And let me tell you, these gallon tea bags are a lifesaver!

So, the first thing I did was grab a box of these Lipton Unsweetened Iced Black Tea Bags. I found them at Target, but I bet you can find similar ones at most grocery stores. They come in a “Family Size” box, but don’t be fooled – these bags are huge! Each one can make a whole gallon of tea.

Next, I boiled some water. Now, the instructions usually say to boil about a quart of water for one gallon bag. That’s around 4 cups or 32 ounces. I just used my regular kettle for this. Once it was boiling, I turned off the heat and carefully poured the hot water over the tea bag in a big pitcher I use for making drinks.

    Steps:

  • Boiled 1 quart of water.
  • Poured hot water over 1 gallon-sized tea bag.
  • Brewed for 3-5 minutes.
  • Added 3 quarts of cold water.
  • Sweetened to taste.

I let it steep for about 3 to 5 minutes. You don’t want to over-steep it, or it might get bitter. While it was steeping, I got a bigger container ready – the one I was actually going to store the tea in. Once the steeping time was up, I carefully removed the tea bag. Watch out, it’s hot!

Then, I poured the brewed tea into the bigger container and added about 3 quarts of cold water. This brings it up to a full gallon. I gave it a good stir to make sure it was all mixed well. If you want to sweeten your tea, this is when you’d add your sugar or sweetener. I usually go for unsweetened, but you do you!

And that’s pretty much it! I popped the whole thing in the fridge to chill. It’s so convenient to have a big batch of iced tea ready to go. Plus, these tea bags come in different types – I saw they had decaf and even green tea versions. I’ll probably try those next time!

Honestly, using these gallon tea bags has made things so much easier. No more brewing multiple batches or dealing with a bunch of small tea bags. Just one big bag, a little bit of boiling water, and you’re good to go. It’s a simple trick, but it’s been a real game-changer for me, especially during these hot summer months. Give it a try – you might just love it as much as I do!
