matcha tea
Okay, so the other day I was feeling a bit adventurous, and I decided to try something new with my tea. I’ve been really into this Teavana Maharaja Chai Oolong lately. It’s got this amazing, spicy kick to it, but I wanted to see if I could make it even more interesting.
First, I grabbed my usual stash of the Maharaja Chai Oolong. This stuff already has a bunch of good things in it like ginger, cinnamon, and cloves – pretty much all the good, warming spices. I also picked up some Samurai Chai Mat, because why not mix things up even more?
While the oolong was doing its thing, I got the Samurai Chai Mat ready. I usually just whisk it into some hot water until it gets all frothy and nice. Figured this time I would combine the two somehow.
After letting the oolong steep for about five minutes, it turned this beautiful honey-amber color, like a light brown but still super clear. Then, I had the fun part to make my experiment. I carefully poured the brewed oolong into the cup with the whisked matcha. Gave it a good stir to make sure everything was mixed up real well.
The smell was something else, let me tell you! All those spices from the oolong mixing with the earthy matcha. I took a sip, and wow, it was definitely bold. The spiciness from the chai and the kind of grassy, smooth taste from the matcha – it all came together in this really rich, full-bodied flavor.
Honestly, it was a bit much at first, but then it grew on me. It’s not something I’d drink every day, but it was a fun little experiment. I did a little more reading up, because I was curious. It looked like this “black dragon” tea has a bit of caffeine and has a pretty long history, which is neat. If you’re into trying new tea combinations, I’d say give this a shot. You might just like it!
