Okay, so I’ve been messing around with this black currant tea thing, and let me tell you, it’s been a bit of a journey. I started out just curious, you know? I heard black currants are packed with good stuff like vitamin C and those antioxidant things.

First, I got my hands on some dried black currant leaves. It took some time, you can’t find them easily. I could have bought them but my family planted the seeds so I wanted to make it from scratch. I picked them up with my family. Then I did what people do, I washed them to get rid of any dirt or whatever. It was a bit of a process, honestly.

Next, I boiled some water. I didn’t really know what temperature was best, so I just went with rolling boil, seemed like a safe bet. I measured the water with the electric kettle that can set the temperature. While that was happening, I crushed up the leaves a little. I figured it might help release the flavors or something. Don’t know if it actually made a difference, but it felt right.

  • Boiled water
  • Crushed the leaves

Once the water was boiling, I poured it over the leaves in a teapot. I let it steep for, like, 5 minutes? I read somewhere that’s a good amount of time for herbal teas. Honestly, I just eyeballed it until the color looked right. It turned into this deep, almost purple-ish color. Smelled pretty nice, too, kind of earthy and fruity at the same time.

After steeping, I strained the tea into a mug. I didn’t want any leaves floating around in there. Then came the taste test. It was… interesting. Not bad, but definitely different. Kind of tart, a little sweet, and a bit of that earthy flavor I mentioned. I added a tiny bit of honey, which helped balance it out, I think.

My Thoughts

Overall, it was a fun little experiment. Would I make it again? Maybe. It’s definitely a healthy drink, and I like that I made it all myself, from picking the leaves to brewing the tea. But it’s not something I’d crave, you know? Still, it was cool to try something new and learn a bit more about black currants. Plus, now I can say I’ve made my own black currant tea! Anyone else tried this before?
