Today, I wanted to try something a little different, you know, just to switch things up a bit. I got this idea to make my own perfume. Not just any perfume, but a white rose and tea scent. Sounds fancy, right? I thought so too.
So, I started this little project without really knowing what I was doing. First things first, I needed to gather my ingredients. I remembered reading somewhere that perfumes have these “notes”—top, middle, and base. For my top notes, I went with some aldehydes, a bit of carnation, and a dash of what they call green notes. I just grabbed some green leaves from my garden. Hope that counts!
Next up, the middle notes. This is where the real stars of the show come in—rose and violet. I also added some iris and jasmine because why not? It’s my perfume, after all. I picked these straight from my neighbor’s garden. Don’t worry, they said it was cool.
For the base notes, I used powdery notes, musk, and amber. Honestly, I just found some old powdery stuff in my grandma’s attic and a bit of musk oil I bought online a while back. The amber was a bit tricky, but I managed to find a small piece in my mom’s jewelry box. I hope she doesn’t notice.
Mixing everything was a bit of a mess. I started by crushing the flowers and leaves in a bowl. Then, I poured in some alcohol—the strongest I could find in the house. I stirred it all together and let it sit for a few hours. It smelled… interesting.
After that, I strained the mixture through a coffee filter to get rid of all the plant bits. The liquid I was left with was a murky brown color. Not exactly what I was expecting, but hey, it’s homemade!
I found an old perfume bottle lying around and poured my concoction into it. The final step was to give it a test spray. I closed my eyes, spritzed a bit on my wrist, and took a deep whiff.
The initial scent was a bit strong, but it quickly settled into a surprisingly pleasant aroma. It definitely had that white rose and tea vibe I was going for. It’s not something I’d wear every day, but it’s pretty good for a first try. I also smelled some bergamot, lily, tuberose, cedar, rosewood and sandalwood.
Overall, it was a fun little experiment. I learned a lot about making perfumes, and I even got a unique scent out of it. Who knows, maybe I’ll try making another one soon. But next time, I might do a bit more research first.
Anyway, that’s all for today’s adventure. Let me know if you guys have any crazy DIY ideas you want me to try. Until next time, stay curious!
