Okay, so I’ve been meaning to try out this Taiwan High Mountain Oolong for a while now. Finally got around to it, and let me tell you, it was quite the experience. I’ve heard folks talk about this stuff like it’s some kind of magic potion, so, naturally, I was curious.

First off, I had to get my hands on the real deal. You see, this tea is grown way up in the mountains of Taiwan, like, 1,000 meters or something crazy like that. I did a bit of digging, and apparently, the higher up it’s grown, the better it is. I found some labeled “Shanlinxi High Mountain Oolong,” which I read is a pretty famous one.

Getting Started

So, I ordered a batch, and when it arrived, I was all excited to brew it. The leaves were all twisted and a nice, deep green. Honestly, they looked a little funny. I’m used to the regular stuff that looks like it was made in a factory.

Brewing it up

  • Boiled some water. I read somewhere that the water temperature matters, but hey, I didn’t use a thermometer or anything. Just waited a bit after it boiled.
  • Threw the leaves into my teapot. I used my favorite one I bought.
  • Poured the hot water over the leaves.
  • Covered it and let it sit for a couple of minutes. I think I waited, like, three or four minutes. I’m not one for exact timing. I just know it’s done when it looks done.

Tasting Time

Poured myself a cup, and took a sniff. It smelled flowery and fresh, kind of like a spring day. I took a sip, and wow, it was smooth. Not bitter at all, like some teas can be. It had a sweet, lingering aftertaste that I really enjoyed.

I ended up brewing the same leaves a few more times. The flavor changed a bit with each brew, which was pretty cool. It went from flowery to a bit fruity, and then a little nutty. By the third or fourth brew, it was lighter, but still tasty.

The Verdict

Honestly, this high mountain oolong is some good stuff. I can see why people make a big deal about it. It’s way better than the usual tea bags I grab at the grocery store. It’s kind of a treat, you know? I’m no tea expert, but I enjoyed the whole process, from getting the leaves to brewing and tasting it. I felt kind of fancy, to be honest.

I read online that it has some health benefits, like antioxidants and stuff. I don’t know much about that, but if it’s good for me, that’s a bonus. I just like how it tastes and how it makes me feel relaxed. I’ll definitely be drinking more of this stuff. I might even try some different kinds of high mountain oolongs to see how they compare.
