Okay, so, I’ve been really into green tea lately, right? And I got curious about, like, how acidic or basic it is. You know, the whole pH thing. So, I decided to do a little experiment at home. Nothing fancy, just wanted to see for myself.

First, I gathered my supplies. I grabbed some green tea bags from my pantry – just the regular kind I always drink. Then, I needed something to measure the pH. I remembered I had those pH test strips somewhere. You know, those little paper things you use to test pool water? Yeah, those. I found them in my junk drawer after a bit of digging.

  • Green tea bags
  • pH test strips
  • Water
  • A cup

Next, I brewed a cup of green tea. I just boiled some water, poured it over a tea bag in a cup, and let it steep for a few minutes. While it was steeping, I got a pH strip ready. I felt like a scientist in my own kitchen!

Testing the PH

Once the tea was ready, I took out the tea bag and dipped the pH strip into the cup. I waited for the color to change, and compared it to the little color chart that came with the strips.

And guess what? The color indicated that the pH was around 9! I read somewhere that anything above 7 is considered alkaline, so my green tea was definitely on the basic side, but not the strongest base. It made sense because I know that green tea isn’t fermented like black tea. A guy on the internet said green tea is alkaline with a pH of 9 and I wanted to see if that was true.

It was a fun little experiment. Nothing groundbreaking, but it satisfied my curiosity. Plus, it gave me an excuse to drink more green tea. Win-win!

So there you have it. My little green tea pH adventure. It was easy, and I learned something new. Maybe I’ll try this with other drinks sometime. Coffee, perhaps? We’ll see! If you like doing stuff like this, maybe you can try it too.
