Alright, so, let me tell you about this little adventure I had with a band called “Oolong Gurus”. I’d never heard of them before, but their name, I mean, come on, “Oolong Gurus”? That’s just too good to pass up, right?
So, I started digging around a bit. Turns out, these guys are an Alt-Country band, play all over Ohio and West Virginia. They even played at the Jamboree in the Hills, which, if you know anything about country music, is a pretty big deal. Apparently, they’re known as one of Mansfield’s best-kept secrets.
First, I checked out their Facebook page. You know how it is, gotta get the vibe, see what they’re about. Their events calendar was up-to-date, which is always a plus. No one likes showing up to a gig that happened last week. They also mentioned their site, so I popped over there too.
Next, I dove into their music. I found them on Apple Music, and let me tell you, these guys have a sound. They call it Alternative Country, but it’s got a bit of everything – Country, Rock, Blues, even some Bluegrass. And they don’t just play covers, they’ve got their own originals too. I listened to a track called “Pristine Christine”, and it was pretty catchy. They really do have their own renditions of some great songs, like Son Volt.
After listening to their stuff, I decided I needed to see these guys live. I mean, a band with a name like “Oolong Gurus” that plays a mix of genres and has their own unique sound? That’s a show I didn’t want to miss.
So, I followed their events, waited for them to play somewhere close, and finally, my chance came. I drove out to a local venue, grabbed a drink, and settled in for the show.
And let me tell you, they did not disappoint. The energy, the music, the crowd – it was all fantastic. They played their hearts out, and you could tell they loved what they were doing. They even played “Pristine Christine”, and it was even better live.
In the end, I walked away a fan. I bought a t-shirt, followed them on all the socials, and I’ve been listening to their music ever since. So, yeah, that’s my Oolong Gurus story. It’s not every day you stumble upon a band that’s such a hidden gem, but I’m glad I did. These guys are the real deal, and I can’t wait to see what they do next.
