tea set
Okay, so I tried making green rooibos tea today. It was kinda interesting, so I thought I’d share my experience with you all.
First, I got my hands on some green rooibos tea leaves. I found them at a local tea shop, but I guess you can order them online too. They looked different from the regular red rooibos – lighter in color and kind of more, well, green! I also grabbed my favorite teapot and a tea infuser because these were loose leaves, not tea bags.
I boiled some water in my kettle. While waiting, I measured out about a teaspoon of the green rooibos leaves and put them into the infuser. Once the water hit a rolling boil, I poured it over the leaves in the teapot, making sure the infuser was fully submerged. Then came the waiting game.
I wasn’t too sure about how long to steep this stuff, so I went with about 5 minutes. I figured it’s better to start with a shorter time and then adjust later if needed. While it was steeping, I noticed the water started to turn a light golden color. It smelled kinda grassy and fresh, different from the usual rooibos.
After 5 minutes, I removed the infuser and poured myself a cup. The color was a pale yellow, pretty light. I took a sip, and whoa, it was definitely different. It tasted milder than red rooibos, with a slight sweetness and that grassy note I smelled earlier. I added a little honey because I like my tea a bit sweet, and that made it even better.
Overall, I really liked the green rooibos tea. It was a nice change from the usual. I think I’ll experiment with the steeping time next time, maybe try 7 minutes to see if it brings out more flavor. If you’re into trying different teas, I’d say give this one a shot. It’s a chill, relaxing kind of tea.
So that was my little tea adventure today. Let me know if any of you have tried green rooibos and what you thought of it. Always up for hearing other people’s experiences!
