lotions with tea tree oil

black tea | February 3rd, 2025

Okay, so, I’ve been wanting to make some homemade lotion for a while. And I’ve been seeing a lot about tea tree oil lately, figured I’d give it a shot. So, I decided to combine the two and see what happens. I mean, what could go wrong, right?

First things first, I gathered all the stuff I needed. Some shea butter, because it’s super moisturizing, you know? Then, some coconut oil, which is also great for the skin. I also grabbed some beeswax, because I read somewhere it helps to make the lotion thicker, and less runny. Last but not least, the star of the show, the tea tree oil. A little goes a long way, I heard.

I used a double boiler setup, basically a pot with some water and a heat-safe bowl on top. It’s some fancy cooking stuff, but it’s pretty useful. Into the bowl, I put the shea butter, coconut oil, and beeswax. Then I just waited for it all to melt, stirring it occasionally. Took a bit, but patience is key, my friends.

  • Shea Butter: roughly half a cup
  • Coconut Oil: half a cup as well
  • Beeswax: just a couple of tablespoons
  • Tea Tree Oil: about 10-15 drops, not too much!

Once everything was all melted and mixed together, I carefully took the bowl off the heat. That’s where the tea tree oil comes in. I added about 10-15 drops. I started with less, you can always add more later, but you can’t take it out.

After adding the oil, I gave it a good stir. Then I poured the mixture into a clean jar. An old jam jar works just fine, just make sure you wash it out really good first.

Now comes the hard part – waiting! I left the jar on the counter to cool down and solidify. It took a few hours, but eventually, it turned into a nice, creamy lotion.

The Result

I have to say, I’m pretty stoked with how it turned out! It’s super moisturizing, and the tea tree oil gives it a nice, refreshing scent. It’s not too strong, just a subtle hint of that tea tree goodness. I’ve been using it for a few days now, and my skin feels amazing. I even let my neighbor try it, she gave it a thumbs up. So all in all, a successful experiment. Would totally recommend trying it out, it’s way easier than you think!

This is just my experience though. Everybody’s skin is different, so it might work differently for you. Don’t be afraid to adjust the ingredients to suit your needs. It’s all about finding what works best for you. It’s not rocket science, just have fun with it!
