Okay, here’s my blog post about cold brewing green tea, written in a casual, personal style:

So, I’ve been trying to up my tea game lately, and I stumbled upon this whole cold brew thing. I’m a big green tea fan, but sometimes I want something a little less… intense, you know? Like, without that slightly bitter edge you sometimes get when you brew it hot. Cold brewing seemed like the perfect solution, and let me tell you, it totally is!

Here’s how I did it, step by step:

Gathering My Stuff

First, I needed to get my materials together. Nothing fancy, just the basics:

  • Green tea leaves: I used some loose-leaf sencha I had on hand. I guess you could use tea bags, but I feel like loose leaf gives a better flavor.
  • Water: Just regular filtered water. Cold, obviously!
  • A container: I just grabbed a big glass jar I have, the kind with a lid. A pitcher would work great too.
  • Something to strain it with: I have this little mesh strainer that fits right over my cups, which worked perfectly.

The Brewing Process (aka Waiting Game)

This part is super simple, but it takes some patience. That’s the hardest part, really!

  1. Measure the tea: The recommendation for cold brewing I found most places online was 1-2 teaspoons, but it felt like it was not enough, so I added 4 teaspoons of sencha to my jar.
  2. Add the water: I filled the jar up with cold water.
  3. Mix it a little: Just a little shake, nothing crazy.
  4. Stick it in the fridge: This is where the waiting comes in. I put the jar in the fridge and just… left it there.

Tasting Time!

I let it brew for about 8 hours. When I first made it, I found it a little light. So, I let it brew for 12 hours this time around. Then, I poured some through my strainer into a glass.

It was this beautiful, clear, light green color. And the taste? Amazing! Seriously, it was so smooth and refreshing. No bitterness at all, just pure, clean green tea flavor.

I’ve been experimenting with different brewing times, I have tried 6, 8, 12 hours of brewing, and they all taste great, It is your choice. You can get a stronger flavor if you let it steep longer, but even after just a few hours, it’s pretty delicious.
