- matcha green tea latte mix
Okay, so I’ve been on this huge matcha kick lately. I see those fancy green tea lattes at coffee shops all the time, but my wallet started crying, so I decided to figure out how to make my own mix at home. It’s actually way easier than I thought!
First, I grabbed some basic stuff I already had. Really, the main thing is the matcha powder itself. I found a pretty good one at the local Asian grocery store. Don’t cheap out too much on this part, a good quality matcha makes a HUGE difference in the taste. You’ll also need:
I did some experiment.
Honestly, I just dumped everything into a bowl and started mixing. The first time, I used way too much matcha, and it was bitter. The second time, I didn’t use enough milk powder, and it was clumpy. It took a few tries to get the balance right. I find out the best ratio that suits my taste.
I ended up using something like this:
I whisked everything together really well. You want to make sure there are no clumps of matcha or sugar hiding anywhere. I sifted it, to be extra sure, using one of those little mesh strainers. That helped a lot!
To make the actual latte, I just heated up some milk (I used almond milk, but any kind works). Then, I added a couple of spoonfuls of my mix to the hot milk and whisked like crazy. You can also use a milk frother if you have one – it makes it super creamy and foamy.
And that’s it! Seriously, it’s that easy. I poured it into my favorite mug, and it tasted pretty darn close to the coffee shop version. I even sprinkled a little extra matcha powder on top to make it look fancy. I felt very proud of myself. Now I can have my matcha fix anytime I want, and my bank account is much happier too!
