Okay, so I’ve been trying to cut back on sugar, you know, for health reasons and all that. And one of the things I love is iced green tea. But the store-bought stuff? Loaded with sugar! So, I decided to try making my own sugar-free version at home. It turned out to be way easier than I thought, and I want to share my process.

Getting Started

First, I gathered my stuff. I mean, it is not that much really:

  • Green tea bags (I used some basic ones, nothing fancy)
  • Water (filtered, because why not?)
  • A big pitcher
  • A sweetener (I used liquid Stevia)
  • ice cubes

The Brewing Process

I boiled some water in my kettle. How much water? well, It depends on your pitcher size, just use your sense. Once it was boiling, I poured it into the pitcher. Next step, I added six green tea bags. I did this by feeling, I think I should change this next time, it will be better if I can measure it.

I let the tea steep for like, 5 minutes. I just followed the instructions. Then, I took out the tea bags and squeezed them a bit to get all the good stuff out. It’s time to let it cool down. I just left the pitcher on the counter for a while. I had to make sure that the water had cooled down. I didn’t want to add my sweetener to boiling water.

Sweetening Things Up (Without the Sugar)

Here’s the part that I should do when the tea is not that hot. This time, the tea was completely cool. I add the sweetener to it. Since I’m using liquid stevia, I just added a few drops at a time, and then stirred and tasted. This part is important because you have to find your sweet point! I kept adding and tasting until it was just right. Not too sweet, not too bland.

Cooling and Enjoying!

Finally, I filled the pitcher with ice. I stirred the tea a lot, and it cooled down pretty quickly. At this point, the tea turned from hot to cold.

And that’s it! Sugar-free green tea, made at home. It was actually really simple, and it tasted way better than the bottled stuff. Plus, I know exactly what’s in it. I’ve been making a big pitcher of this every few days and keeping it in the fridge. It’s super refreshing, especially on a hot day. And the best part is, I can drink as much as I want without feeling guilty about the sugar!
