Okay, so, I’ve been wanting to try something new with my tea lately. I drink a lot of tea, like, a lot. And I kept seeing stuff about bergamot oil and how it’s in Earl Grey, which I do enjoy from time to time. So, I thought, why not try to make my own version, you know? Experiment a little.

First, I went out and got myself some bergamot essential oil. It’s not too hard to find. They have it at most of those health food stores, and it smells amazing, like a super fancy orange.

Then, I grabbed a big jar of my favorite loose leaf black tea. I didn’t use anything too expensive, just a regular, everyday kind of tea. I measured out about 60 grams of tea leaves and dumped them into a clean glass jar.

Now, here’s where I got a little nervous. I didn’t want to ruin my tea. I read online that you only need a tiny bit of the oil, like a drop per 2 grams. This was so difficult. I ended up just carefully dripping it onto the tea leaves, trying to spread it out as evenly as I could. I think I ended up using around 30 drops, maybe a little less. My bergamot oil came in a small flask that dispenses drops when held upside down.

After that, I closed the lid of the jar really tight and shook it like crazy. I wanted to make sure the oil got mixed in with all the tea leaves, and it is thoroughly mixed.

I let it sit for a few days, just to let the flavors mingle. I was really curious to see what it would taste like.

Finally, the day came to try it out. I boiled some water and scooped a spoonful of my bergamot-infused tea into my teapot, then poured hot water into it.

When I took that first sip… wow! It was surprisingly good! The bergamot added this really nice, citrusy flavor to the tea. It wasn’t overpowering, but it was definitely there. It tasted like a way fancier version of my usual tea.

What I Learned

• Less is more with bergamot oil. A few drops go a long way.
• It’s actually pretty easy to add bergamot oil to tea.
• You can also just add a drop or two of bergamot oil to your already brewed tea.
• The citrusy notes of bergamot oil complement the floral aroma of Earl Grey.

Honestly, I’m really happy with how it turned out. It’s a fun and easy way to spice up my tea routine. I might even try experimenting with other essential oils in the future. Who knows, maybe I’ll stumble upon the next big tea trend!
