Okay, so I’ve been seeing these cans of Arizona Hard Green Tea everywhere lately, and I finally caved and bought a case. I’m not usually one to pore over nutrition labels, but something about this one had me curious. I mean, it’s “hard” green tea – does that mean it’s packing a sneaky amount of sugar or calories? Time to find out.

First things first, I grabbed one of the cans from my fridge. The design is pretty standard for Arizona, that tall can with the floral pattern. I turned it around, looking for that little box of nutritional info. Found it!

Initial Observations

  • Serving Size: My first thought was that the whole can would be one serving, but it said one serving size is 12 ounces. But hey it is a pretty big can I think.
  • Calories: Each serving has 130 calories. I guess that is kind of high, but it’s not too crazy, I think.

Digging Deeper

Now for the interesting stuff. I started scanning the ingredients list.

  • Ingredients: The first thing that popped out was “Premium Brewed Blend of Green Teas Using Filtered Water.” Okay, that sounds healthy enough, I guess. But it also has that high fructose corn syrup in there.
  • Sugar: This is where things got a bit wild. I heard that Arizona Iced Tea contains 60 to 70 grams of sugar, which is too much. This can says each serving has 2 grams.
  • Other Stuff: I noticed it also lists the caffeine content. I did some digging online and found out it does contain caffeine.

Final Thoughts

So, after my little deep dive into the Arizona Hard Green Tea nutrition facts, I’m kind of surprised. I mean it is not too bad. It’s definitely not the healthiest drink out there, but it’s not as bad as I thought. The whole can has around 200 calories, and it does have 2 grams of sugar per serving. But it does use real green tea leaves and has some of those high fructose corn syrup, which is not great. All in all, it’s probably not something I’ll be drinking every day, but I guess it’s okay for a once-in-a-while treat. Plus, it’s got that kick from the alcohol, so that’s a bonus, right? This little experiment was definitely eye-opening. I think next time I’m at the store, I’ll be paying a bit more attention to those nutrition labels!
