Alright folks, let’s dive into my recent aromatherapy project: a white tea and rose lotion. I’ve always been a sucker for the soothing scent of roses and the calming effect of white tea, so combining them into a lotion seemed like a natural step. It wasn’t exactly straightforward, though, so let me walk you through my process, warts and all.
First, I gathered my supplies. This involved a bit of a scavenger hunt – I had some things already, but needed to pick up a few extras. I needed distilled water, of course, plus some sweet almond oil, which I prefer for its gentle nature. Then there was the star of the show: rose essential oil, and some white tea extract that I made myself earlier (more on that later!). I also grabbed some emulsifying wax – the stuff that helps the oil and water mix nicely – and a preservative to keep everything fresh. Oh, and don’t forget a double boiler, a few bowls, a whisk, and some cute bottles to store the finished product.
Making the white tea extract was a whole adventure in itself. I steeped some high-quality white tea leaves in almost boiling water, letting it sit for a good while to get a strong infusion. Then, I strained it carefully, making sure to get all those lovely tea leaves out. I let it cool completely before moving on to the next step. Honestly, that part was pretty simple but crucial to the whole process.
Now for the lotion itself. I started by melting the emulsifying wax in the double boiler. Once it was melted, I slowly added the sweet almond oil, stirring constantly to ensure everything combined smoothly. This is where things got a little tricky – I had a bit of a mishap, nearly burning the oil. I had to start over! Lesson learned: low and slow is the way to go.
After successfully melting the wax and oil, I added the cooled white tea extract and gently stirred it in. This was all done while the mixture was still warm, but not too hot. Then came the fun part – I added my rose essential oil, just a few drops to avoid overpowering the scent, and mixed it in well. Finally, I incorporated the preservative, again mixing it thoroughly. I must admit this entire process took longer than I originally anticipated.
Once everything was fully combined, I poured the mixture into my pretty little bottles. I let it cool completely before sealing them up. The cooling process was where I really tested my patience!
The final product? A lovely, light lotion with a subtle, beautiful aroma of white tea and rose. The texture is fantastic, too, wonderfully moisturizing without being greasy. I’m really pleased with how it turned out. It definitely wasn’t a quick project, but the end result was more than worth the time and effort. Now if only I could bottle that feeling of accomplishment!
