Okay, so I’ve been wanting to make a custom teapot for a while, and I finally decided to go for it. I’m a big fan of checkered patterns, and I thought a black and white checkered teapot would look super cool. So, here’s how I did it.

First, I found a plain white ceramic teapot. Nothing fancy, just a basic one from a craft store. I made sure to clean it really well with soap and water, and then I dried it thoroughly. This is important so the paint sticks properly.

Getting Started

  • Plain white ceramic teapot
  • Black and white acrylic paint (make sure it’s suitable for ceramics)
  • Thin paintbrushes
  • Masking tape
  • A pencil
  • A ruler or measuring tape
  • A sealant (optional, but recommended)

Next, I used a pencil and a ruler to lightly draw a grid pattern on the teapot. I decided to go for pretty small squares, so I measured and marked everything out carefully. It took a bit of time, but it was worth it to get the lines straight.

After that, I was ready to apply paint! I decided to use ceramic paint markers for the black squares, as I find them easier to use and there’s less of a risk of the paint dripping. I was ready to start filling them in.

Once the black squares were done and completely dry, I was done! No sealing necessary.

And that’s it! My very own black and white checkered teapot. It was a fun project, and I’m really happy with how it turned out. It definitely adds a bit of personality to my kitchen.
