Today, I wanna talk about something I’ve been messing around with lately – those blue and white Japanese tea cups. You know, the ones that look kinda fancy but are actually pretty chill to use.
So, I got curious about these cups, called “yunomi” by the way, which just means something to drink hot water from. I started digging around, and man, there’s a whole world to these things! I learned they’re usually small, no handles, and shaped like a cylinder. Pretty simple, right?
Then, I stumbled upon something called “chawan”, which are used in those formal tea ceremonies. They’re bigger and fancier than yunomi, but honestly, I’m more into the everyday vibe of the smaller ones.
I decided I needed to get my hands on some of these blue and white beauties. I started checking out online stores and I found lots of modern ones with cool designs, like plum blossoms and stuff. There’re also some nice tea set options. A 25 oz teapot with 4 cups in blue and white pattern sounds really tempting! One set even has a removable stainless infuser and bamboo tray. However, since I prefer antique stuff so I skipped them.
But here’s where it got interesting – I learned that older cups can be worth way more than new ones. Like, some cups from 200 years ago are super valuable. I browsed through some auction sites, and wow, some of those prices were insane! We’re talking thousands of dollars for a single cup. I mean, they were beautiful, but way out of my league.
Seeing those prices, I knew I had to be realistic. I’m not a millionaire, so I set a budget and started looking for something more affordable. I figured I could find some cool vintage ones that wouldn’t break the bank.
I hit up some local antique shops and even checked out a few flea markets. I found a couple of cups that I really liked. They weren’t super old, but they had that nice blue and white pattern I was after. And you know what? They were pretty cheap!
This whole experience taught me that you don’t need to spend a fortune to enjoy these beautiful Japanese tea cups. It’s all about finding something you like and that fits your style. Plus, it’s kinda fun to hunt for hidden treasures in unexpected places.
So yeah, that’s my little adventure with blue and white Japanese tea cups. I’m definitely gonna keep using them and maybe even add a few more to my collection. If you’re into this kind of thing, I say go for it! You might be surprised at what you find.
