body wash with tea tree oil

Okay, so I’ve been on this whole “natural” kick lately, trying to ditch the harsh chemicals in my everyday stuff. And my body wash? Prime candidate for a swap. I kept seeing tea tree oil pop up as a good ingredient, so I figured, why not give it a shot? I’m going to make my own!

Getting Started

First things first, I needed to grab some supplies. I already had some Dr. Bronner’s Castile Soap lying around – the unscented kind, obviously. That stuff is like the base for a million DIY projects. Then, the star of the show: tea tree oil. I picked up a small bottle from the local health food store. Make sure to get the pure stuff that is safe.

Mixing it Up

Honestly, this was the easiest part. I grabbed a clean, empty bottle – recycled an old shampoo bottle, actually. I poured in about a cup of the Castile soap. Then, for the tea tree oil, I added maybe, like, 10-15 drops? I didn’t want to overdo it, you know? Tea tree oil can be pretty strong. Then add water, I filled to the top.

I gave the bottle a good shake to mix everything up. It got a little cloudy, but that’s totally normal. Castile soap does that.

Shower Time!

Okay, the moment of truth. I hopped in the shower and used my new concoction. It lathered up nicely, not as foamy as the store-bought stuff, but that’s okay. The smell was definitely…different. Very earthy and medicinal, thanks to the tea tree oil. It wasn’t bad, just not that fake fruity smell I was used to.

The Results

After rinsing off, my skin felt clean, but not that squeaky, stripped-clean feeling you get with some body washes. That’s a good thing! My skin felt soft, and a little tingly, maybe from the tea tree oil? I’ve been using it for a couple of weeks now, and I haven’t had any breakouts or irritation, so that’s a win. I sometimes add a drop of oil(argan, olive, etc) if I’m feeling fancy.

Final Thoughts

  • Pros: It’s super easy to make, it’s way cheaper than buying fancy natural body washes, and I know exactly what’s in it. Plus, tea tree oil is supposed to be good for acne and stuff, so that’s a bonus.
  • Cons: The smell takes some getting used to. And you have to shake it before each use because the oil and soap can separate a bit.

Overall, I’m pretty happy with my homemade tea tree oil body wash. It’s a simple swap that makes me feel good about what I’m putting on my skin. If you’re looking for a natural, easy-to-make body wash, I’d say give it a try!
