Well, let me tell ya somethin’ about this oolong tea and black tea. Folks always talkin’ about ’em, but half the time they don’t know what’s what.
Oolong, ya see, it’s kinda like the middle child of teas. Not green, not black, somewhere in between. They say it’s got the smell of that green stuff, but goes down smooth like the black. That’s ’cause of somethin’ they call oxidizin’. Green tea, they don’t do nothin’ to it, just pick it and dry it, I reckon. Black tea, they let it sit around ’til it turns all dark. Oolong, well, it’s in the middle, gettin’ a little bit of that air, but not too much.
Now, they got all these fancy numbers, talkin’ ’bout 15% or 80% oxidized. I ain’t got time for all that. Just know that oolong’s in between.
Then there’s that green tea. Folks say it’s the healthiest. Got all them fancy “anti-ox-i-dants,” whatever that means. More than black tea, they say. Keeps ya healthy, I guess. But I ain’t never been one for that grassy tastin’ stuff.
So how do they make this oolong stuff anyway? Well, they pick the leaves, then they mess with ’em, lettin’ ’em get a little bit of air, but not too much. They got their ways, I guess. Different ways for different kinds of oolong, too. Too complicated for an old woman like me.
The taste, that’s the important part, right? Black tea, it’s strong, you know? Like a good cup of coffee, but tea. Oolong, it’s kinda all over the place. Some tastes light and flowery, some tastes almost like black tea. You just gotta try ’em and see what you like. Don’t let nobody tell you what’s good.
They say oolong comes from China and Taiwan. Far away places. I ain’t never been there. But I can still drink their tea, I guess. Black tea, they make that everywhere now, I reckon.
Now, some folks are always tryin’ to sell ya somethin’. “Finest Oolong Tea,” they say. “Order before five, get it tomorrow.” Hmph. Tea is tea. Don’t need no fancy words or fast delivery. Just a good hot cup is all I need.
So, oolong or black? It’s up to you, I say. You want a kick in the pants, go for the black. You want somethin’ a little lighter, maybe try the oolong. Or just drink whatever you got in the cupboard. That’s what I do.
And don’t listen to all them fancy tea experts. They talk and talk, but in the end, it’s just tea. Drink it and enjoy it, that’s what I say.
