Okay, so I’ve been seeing this “coconut oolong tea” thing pop up all over my feed, and I finally caved. I decided to try the Rishi brand one – seemed like a good place to start, right?

First, I gathered my stuff. I got my Rishi tea bags (obviously), a mug, and my electric kettle. I’m a little obsessed with my kettle because it has temperature settings, which is kinda key for oolong, I think.

The Brewing Process

  • I filled the kettle with fresh, cold water and set it to 195°F (about 90°C). I read somewhere that boiling water can burn the tea leaves, and nobody wants bitter tea.
  • While the water was heating up, I put one tea bag into my favorite mug. It already smelled amazing – kinda sweet and tropical, even before adding water.
  • Once the kettle beeped, I poured the hot water over the tea bag, making sure to fill the mug but leave a little room at the top.
  • Then came the hardest part: waiting! I set a timer for 3 minutes, as the package instructed. I watched the tea steep,it is interesting.
  • After the timer went off, I carefully removed the tea bag. I gave it a gentle squeeze to get all the goodness out, but not too hard – again, trying to avoid bitterness.

Tasting and My Thoughts

Finally, it was time to taste! I took a sip, and wow. It was seriously good. The coconut flavor was definitely there, but it wasn’t overpowering. It mixed really nicely with the oolong, which had that slightly floral, almost creamy taste. It was smooth, not bitter at all, and just…really pleasant. It tasted sweet and I like it.

I added a tiny bit of honey for my own taste,I think it is perfect, and then I enjoyed! I totally get the hype now. I think I’ll be making this a regular part of my tea routine.
