So, the other day I was staring at my sad, empty coffee pot, thinking, “There’s gotta be a better way.” I mean, who has time to grind beans and wait for a whole pot to brew every morning? Not me, that’s for sure. Then it hit me – tea bags! But, like, for coffee. I know, it sounds crazy, right? But stick with me here.
I did a little digging around online, and guess what? This is a thing! They’re called “single-serving brew bags” or something like that. Basically, it’s ground coffee packed into a little bag, just like those fancy tea bags you see at the store. I found some online that talked about using 1 to 2 tablespoons of finely ground coffee in a reusable tea bag, sealing it up, and steeping it in hot water. Genius!
So, I decided, why not give it a shot? I grabbed some of those empty tea bags we had lying around – you know, the ones for loose leaf tea? Yeah, those. Then I ground up some of my favorite coffee beans – had to make sure they were finely ground, though. Dumped a couple of tablespoons into a bag, and tried my best to seal that sucker up. I boiled some water, popped the coffee bag into my mug, and poured the hot water over it. It felt weird, like I was making tea, but with a coffee aroma.
I let it steep for a few minutes, kind of like tea. I saw on a site about “Cascara” that it means “skin,” “peel,” or “shell” in Spanish – interesting, huh? Anyway, I pulled the bag out, and boom! There it was, a freshly brewed cup of joe, no fancy machine needed. And you know what? It wasn’t half bad! It tasted pretty good, actually. I even saw a variety pack online with 20 single-origin, single-serve coffee bags, with different flavors like Brazil and Colombia. But my homemade version did the trick.
I’m telling you, this is a game-changer. No more waiting around for a whole pot to brew, no more messy filters. I saw some pre-made ones online, like BLK & BOLD Organic Single Serve Coffee Tea Bags, but honestly, doing it yourself is way cheaper. Plus, you get to use your favorite coffee. I’m definitely going to be experimenting more with this. Maybe I’ll try different steeping times, or even cold brew. The possibilities are endless!
This whole “coffee bags like tea” thing? Definitely a win in my book. If you’re a coffee lover like me, you gotta try it. It’s easy, it’s cheap, and it makes a darn good cup of coffee.
