do tea bags help stop bleeding

black tea | December 31st, 2024

The other day, I accidentally bit my lip while eating some chips. It was bleeding pretty bad, and I was trying to figure out how to stop it. I remembered hearing something about using tea bags to stop bleeding, so I thought I’d give it a shot.

Experiment Time

First, I grabbed a black tea bag from my kitchen. I ran it under some cold water for a second, just to get it damp. I didn’t steep it or anything, just a quick rinse.

Then, I folded the tea bag in half and placed it directly on the cut inside my lip. I pressed down firmly with my thumb and index finger. It felt a little weird at first, and the taste of the tea was a bit strong, but I held it there.

  • Minute 1: The bleeding was still pretty noticeable, but I could feel it slowing down a little.
  • Minute 3: Definitely less blood now. The tea bag was starting to get soaked, but I kept the pressure on.
  • Minute 5: I peeked, and the bleeding had pretty much stopped. There was just a little bit of red on the tea bag.
  • Minute 10: I took the tea bag off, and the bleeding had completely stopped. I rinsed my mouth with some water, and it was all good.

My Thoughts

Honestly, I was surprised that it worked so well. I was skeptical at first, but this little tea bag trick actually did the job. I guess those tannins in the tea really do help with clotting. It’s definitely something I’ll keep in mind for the next time I have a minor cut. It’s a simple, natural remedy, and it saved me from having to deal with a bloody mess for too long. So, yeah, I’d say this experiment was a success!
