black tea
Well, let me tell ya ’bout this here Dragon Eye Oolong tea. It ain’t like that dusty ol’ Lipton stuff you find at the Piggly Wiggly. This here’s somethin’ special, or so they say.
First off, they call it “Dragon Eye” ’cause the leaves, when they’re all dried up, they look like little dragon eyes. I ain’t never seen no dragon, mind you, but I guess that’s what they look like. These leaves, they ain’t just picked and dried like hay. They do somethin’ fancy to ’em. They call it “oolong,” which sounds like somethin’ you’d yell when you stub your toe, but it’s a way of makin’ tea, I reckon.
This oolong tea, it’s Chinese, ya know. Them Chinese folks, they been drinkin’ this stuff for ages. They say it’s good for ya, like it’ll make your heart strong and your head clear. I don’t know about all that, but it tastes pretty good, I gotta say.
Now, the taste, that’s somethin’ else. It ain’t bitter like some teas, and it ain’t sugary sweet like Kool-Aid. It’s kinda in between. Some folks say it tastes a little smoky, like it was dried over a wood fire. And then there’s a little bit of sweetness, like a peach or apricot, but not too much. Just a hint, you know? It’s kinda like a whisper of sweetness in the middle of a smoky room.
They got this tea in little bags, like those pyramid-shaped things, or you can get the loose leaves. I prefer the bags myself, less mess. You just boil up some water, stick a bag in your cup, and let it sit for a bit. How long you let it sit, well, that’s up to you. Some folks like it weak, some folks like it strong. Me, I like it right in the middle.
Now, about that caffeine. This here tea, it’s got caffeine, but not as much as coffee. Coffee, that’ll make you jittery like a June bug on a hot skillet. This tea, it just gives you a little lift, enough to get you goin’ in the mornin’, but not enough to keep you up all night. They say a cup of this tea has got about 30 milligrams of caffeine, while a cup of coffee has got about 120. So, it’s a good choice if you want a little pick-me-up but don’t wanna be bouncin’ off the walls.
The smell of it, too, that’s somethin’ to talk about. When you open up the bag or the tin, this sweet smell just hits ya. It’s kinda flowery, like jasmine, but with that smoky undertone. It’s a real nice smell, not like that cheap perfume they sell down at the five and dime.
This “Dragon Eye Oolong” tea, it ain’t cheap, mind you. But sometimes, it’s nice to treat yourself to somethin’ a little fancy. It’s a good way to relax after a long day of workin’ in the garden or wranglin’ chickens. Just sittin’ on the porch, sippin’ on a cup of hot tea, watchin’ the sun go down… that’s the life, I tell ya.
So, if you’re lookin’ for somethin’ different to drink, somethin’ with a little bit of history and a whole lot of flavor, give this Dragon Eye Oolong a try. You might just like it. And if you don’t, well, there’s always sweet tea. You can’t go wrong with sweet tea.
Where to find it? Well, I ain’t sure where you live, but I got mine down at the fancy grocery store, the one with all the foreign stuff. You could probably find it online too, if you’re one of them computer whizzes. But be careful, don’t go clickin’ on nothin’ you ain’t supposed to.
Anyways, that’s all I gotta say about this Dragon Eye Oolong tea. It’s good stuff, plain and simple. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m gonna go put the kettle on.
