Well, I heard some folks talking ’bout this first flush Darjeeling black tea. Sounds fancy, doesn’t it? They say it’s special, somethin’ about when they pick it. Like, it’s the first pickin’ after the plants sleep all winter. Gotta be somethin’ good ’bout that, right? Like gettin’ the first tomatoes outta your garden. They always taste the best.

So, this tea, they tell me it’s lighter in taste but got a strong smell. A good smell, mind you. Not like that stinky stuff you sometimes get. It’s like, if you’re tryin’ it for the first time, maybe it ain’t as strong, but you sure gonna smell it good. They also say it makes a kinda light-colored drink, but it’s got all these fruity and flowery tastes. I don’t know much ’bout fruity and flowery, but sounds nice. Makes me think of pickin’ berries in the sun.

  • Folks ask if it’s really black tea. Well, they say it’s like it, but kinda its own thing. Like a cousin, maybe. Not exactly the same, but in the family.
  • Now, they talk about this second flush too. That one, they say, is stronger in taste. If you’re new, maybe try that one first. It’s safer, like stickin’ to the main road instead of a windy path.
  • If they don’t say first or second, it’s probably just regular pickin’, later in the summer or fall. Not bad, but not the special first ones.

If you gonna make this tea, they say you need just a little spoon of leaves, like 2.5 grams if you got one of them scales. Put it in your pot and pour hot water over it. Not boilin’ boilin’, but hot. Then wait three minutes. If your pot’s got one of them strainer things, take it out after three minutes. Don’t want it gettin’ too strong, I guess.

So, this first flush and second flush, they both come from the same plant. Just picked at different times. Like how you pick your beans early and then later too. Same plant, different taste. This first one, spring pickin’, they call it. Fresh and new, like spring itself.

This Darjeeling tea I’m hearin’ about, they say it’s only a little bit changed, like they don’t mess with it too much. Just let it be what it is. It’s the whole leaf, not all chopped up. And it’s from them fresh, new leaves after the plant’s been restin’ all winter. Sounds like it’s been pampered, doesn’t it? Like a baby gettin’ all the good stuff.

You know, it makes me think of my grandma’s garden. She always had the best stuff ’cause she took care of it real good. Maybe this tea is like that, taken care of real good. Makes you wanna try it, just to see what all the fuss is about. Could be somethin’ special. Or maybe it’s just tea. But sometimes, just tryin’ somethin’ new is good for the soul.

Anyway, that’s what I heard about this first flush Darjeeling black tea. If you’re into tea, maybe give it a go. Might find somethin’ you really like. And if not, well, at least you tried. Just like pickin’ berries. Sometimes you get a good one, sometimes you don’t. But it’s all part of the fun, ain’t it?
