matcha tea
Well, howdy there! Let’s talk about somethin’ pretty – flowers and tea! Yep, flowers with tea. Never thought much about it, did ya? But them fancy folks, and even us plain ones, been drinkin’ this stuff for ages. Flowers ain’t just for lookin’ at, ya know?
My old granny used to say, “A flower in your cup is like sunshine in your belly.” She was a wise old bird, that one. And she weren’t far off. They say some of these flower teas can make ya feel better, like if yer tummy’s achin’ or ya can’t sleep. Don’t know ’bout all that, but they sure do smell nice.
Now, there’s all sorts of flowers they put in tea. One’s called jasmine. Heard tell it’s real popular. They take them little white flowers and mix ’em with tea leaves. Makes it smell like, well, like a flower garden! I tried it once, at that fancy tea shop downtown. Cost me an arm and a leg, but it was kinda nice, I gotta admit.
Then there’s rose tea. Roses! Imagine that. Always thought roses were just for lookin’ at or givin’ to yer sweetheart. But nope, they stick ’em in tea too. Makes the tea a little bit sweet, they say. Never tried it myself, though. Seems kinda wasteful to put a pretty rose in a teacup, if ya ask me.
Another one is lavender. Now, that one I have tried. My neighbor, Mrs. Higgins, she grows lavender in her garden. Said it helps her sleep. She gave me some dried lavender once, told me to put it in my tea. Well, it did smell kinda strong, like soap or somethin’. But I slept like a log that night, so maybe there’s somethin’ to it. Who knows?
And there’s this other flower, chamomile. Hard to say that word, ain’t it? “Ka-mo-mile.” Sounds like somethin’ a doctor would say. Anyways, they say that one’s good for yer tummy. If yer feelin’ a bit queasy or got the indigestion, chamomile tea is supposed to help. Can’t hurt to try, I guess. Better than that nasty pink medicine they give ya at the drug store.
Now, I ain’t no expert on this flower tea business. I just know what I hear and what I’ve tried. But it seems like folks been mixin’ flowers and tea for a long, long time. For centuries, they say. Must be somethin’ to it, right? Maybe them old-timers knew a thing or two. They didn’t have all them fancy pills and potions we got now, so they used what they had – flowers, herbs, all that kinda stuff.
So, next time you’re feelin’ a bit under the weather, or just want somethin’ different to drink, why not try some flower tea? Might surprise ya. And even if it don’t cure what ails ya, at least it’ll smell nice. And that’s somethin’, ain’t it? A little bit of sunshine in your cup, just like my granny used to say.
It’s funny how things work. Flowers in the garden, then flowers in your cup. And they ain’t just any flowers, like them dandelions growin’ wild in the yard. These are special flowers, grown and dried just for tea. Makes ya wonder who figured that out, huh? Who was the first person to look at a flower and think, “Hey, I bet that would taste good in my tea”? Must’ve been a brave soul, or maybe just plain curious. Or maybe they were just hungry and there weren’t nothin’ else to eat! Never know with them old-timers.
And another thing, some of these teas ain’t just one flower. They mix ‘em up, like a recipe. A little bit of this, a little bit of that. Like makin’ a stew, but with flowers instead of vegetables. Floral teas, they call ‘em. Sounds fancy, don’t it? But it’s just flowers and tea, when you get right down to it.
Then there’s this chrysanthemum flower tea. Now that’s a mouthful. I can barely say the word let alone know what it is. But those city folks, they seem to like it. Said it’s good for you, whatever that means. At my age, everything hurts a little, so maybe I should try some. Can’t hurt, right? Probably taste like dirt, though. Most things that are “good for you” usually do.
So, there you have it. My two cents on flowers and tea. Not much, I know. But it’s somethin’ to think about. Next time you’re at the store, take a look at the tea aisle. See what kind of flowers they got mixed in with them leaves. You might be surprised. And who knows, you might just find your new favorite drink. Just remember what my granny said – a flower in your cup is like sunshine in your belly. And we could all use a little more sunshine, right?
