Okay, folks, let’s dive into my little experiment with food-grade tea tree oil.

So, I’ve been hearing a lot about the wonders of tea tree oil, but mostly for external uses, like on skin or for cleaning. Then I stumbled upon “food-grade” tea tree oil, and my curiosity was piqued. I mean, if it’s “food-grade,” it’s gotta be safe to ingest in some way, right? Time to put on my lab coat (not really, just a regular apron) and do some digging.

My Little Experiment Starts

First thing I did was try to get informed. I did some research to find the brands that make food grade tree oil, and the benefits, and how I could possibly use.

After choosing the one for my experiment, I ordered one small bottle online. When It finally arrived, I was excited and a little nervous.

I opened the bottle and took a whiff. Whoa, that’s strong! It smelled exactly like the regular tea tree oil I use for cleaning, just…maybe a bit more intense? I definitely wasn’t going to gulp this stuff down straight.

Putting it to the Test

My first experiment? Adding a single drop to a large glass of water. I stirred it really well, took a deep breath, and took a sip. It tasted…well, like tea tree oil. Kinda medicinal, a bit like eucalyptus, with a lingering aftertaste. Not exactly delicious, but not horrible either.

  • Next, I tried adding a drop to my morning smoothie.
  • I figured the fruit and yogurt would mask the flavor.

That worked a bit better! I could still taste a hint of it, but it was much more subtle.

Over the next few days, I got a bit bolder. I added a drop to a cup of herbal tea. It actually blended pretty well with the other flavors, especially in a mint or lemon tea. Still, one drop was definitely the limit. Any more than that, and it became overpowering.

The Results?

Honestly, I didn’t notice any miraculous health benefits. I mean, my breath felt a bit fresher, and maybe my digestion was a tiny bit smoother? But it wasn’t anything dramatic. I wasn’t suddenly bursting with energy or feeling superhuman.

Would I recommend it? I’m on the fence. It’s definitely an interesting experiment, and if you’re already a fan of tea tree oil’s flavor (which is a bit of an acquired taste), then go for it. Just remember to start small, with just a single drop, and always make sure it’s labeled “food-grade.” And, as with anything, if you have any doubts, talk to a doctor or health professional first. Don’t be like me that does things without much thinking!
