gallon size tea bags

Okay, so I’ve been trying to make iced tea at home lately, ’cause store-bought stuff can get expensive, you know? And, well, I wanted to make big batches, like a whole gallon at once. I got really confused about how many tea bags I should use. I mean, I didn’t want it to be too weak or too strong, just right, like Goldilocks!

First, I grabbed my usual box of regular-sized tea bags. I started reading online, and most places said something like one tea bag for every 8 ounces of water. A gallon has 128 ounces, so I did the math, and oh boy, that’s 16 tea bags! I thought, “That seems like a heck of a lot of tea bags for just one gallon.”

Then I remembered seeing bigger tea bags at the store, labeled “family size” or “gallon size”. I went back to look, and sure enough, there they were. I picked up a box of the Lipton gallon-size ones, and the box said it made, well, a gallon! Much easier, right? Just one big tea bag instead of 16 little ones.

I also found some “family size” ones that said they make a quart each. A quart is 32 ounces, so that meant I only needed four of those to make a gallon. Still better than 16, huh?

  • So, I boiled some water in a pot.
  • Once it was bubbling, I turned off the heat and tossed in one of those giant gallon-sized tea bags.
  • The box said to let it steep for 3-5 minutes. I went with 4, just to be safe.
  • Then, I carefully removed the tea bag and added a bunch of cold water to make a full gallon.

I added sugar after that, but you can add it before too. I poured myself a glass over ice, and it was perfect! Just the right strength, and it made so much! No more messing around with a million little tea bags. Now I can make a big batch and have iced tea ready to go in the fridge whenever I want. It’s a game-changer, really. I’m never going back to buying so much bottled iced tea or messing with so many little bags. These big ones are the way to go, saves so much time and messing about.

I also saw a brand called “Capit’l T” that had big tea bags, and some called “Luzianne,” but I stuck with Lipton this time. Maybe I’ll try those others another time and compare!

So yeah, that’s my little iced tea adventure. If you’re like me and want to make a lot of iced tea at home, definitely look for those gallon-size or family-size tea bags. They make the whole process so much simpler!
