ginger tea
I tried to make a cup of green tea the other day, but it was so damn hot outside. So I thought, why not try that cold brew thing I saw people talking about online? I mean, I love green tea, but hot tea in this weather? No, thank you.
So, I grabbed my tea leaves. I think it’s some kind of Japanese green tea, I’m not really sure, my friend gave it to me. It smells pretty good, fresh and grassy, you know? I put about a teaspoon of it into my teapot. I didn’t really measure, just eyeballed it. And the pot I used was glass. I just like to see the color of the tea, you know, it’s kind of pleasing to look at.
Then, I poured some cold water into the pot. I didn’t use ice water or anything, just regular cold tap water. I filled it up to the top, covered it, and popped it into the fridge. I read somewhere that you should let it sit for a few hours, some even said overnight. I didn’t have that much patience, to be honest, I went back and checked on it after, like, three hours.
When I took it out, the color was this beautiful light green. And you know what? It tasted amazing! It was really smooth, not bitter at all. And very refreshing. The grassy smell, it’s still there, but it’s much more subtle. I think I might even prefer it to hot tea, especially during summer. It’s just so much easier to drink when it’s this hot out.
I even tried adding a bit of honey to it once. Also pretty good, although I think I prefer the clean, natural taste of the tea itself. It’s just really refreshing and doesn’t have that bitter aftertaste that sometimes comes with hot brewed green tea. It’s definitely something I’ll be doing again.
I mean, it’s such a simple thing to do. Just tea leaves, cold water, and some patience. You don’t need any fancy equipment or anything. So yeah, if you’re a green tea lover like me, you should give this cold brew thing a try. I was surprised by how good it turned out.
A refreshing, smooth, and not-bitter-at-all cup of green tea. Perfect for a hot summer day. I’m definitely going to make this again. It’s just too easy and too good not to. I mean, who knew making cold brew tea could be this simple and satisfying?
