green tea
Okay, so, let’s talk about growing green tea from seeds. I’ve always been into gardening, you know, the usual stuff like tomatoes and herbs. But green tea? That’s a whole different ball game. I got curious and started this little experiment of mine.
First, I got some green tea seeds. I found them at a local garden store. It was so hard to find! Then, I soaked the seeds in water. I just put them in a bowl and covered them with water for about 24 hours. Some people say to soak them for longer, like 48 hours, but I was too impatient for that, lol.
After soaking, I prepared some soil. Now, I’m no expert, but I read somewhere that tea plants like acidic soil. So, I mixed in some peat moss with regular potting soil. I filled a few small pots with this mixture, making sure there were drainage holes at the bottom. You don’t want the roots to rot, right?
Next, I planted the seeds. I gently pushed each seed into the soil, about an inch deep, and covered them up. Then, I watered the pots, just enough to make the soil damp but not soaking wet. Overwatering is a big no-no.
Now comes the waiting game. I placed the pots in a warm, sunny spot in my house, near a window. I made sure to keep the soil moist by watering it every few days. I was so excited I even talked to them, hoping they would grow faster.
Over the next few weeks, the seedlings grew taller and developed more leaves. I carefully transplanted them into bigger pots, being extra gentle with their delicate roots. It’s like handling a newborn baby.
It’s been a few months now, and my little tea plants are doing great. They’re still young, but they look healthy and vibrant. I can’t wait for the day I can actually harvest my own tea leaves. It’s a slow process, but it’s so rewarding to see something you’ve grown from a tiny seed become a real plant. I guess it’s true what they say – patience is a virtue, especially when it comes to gardening. I’ll keep you guys updated on their progress. Wish me luck!
