black tea | February 21st, 2025

Okay, here’s my blog post about my “green tea set” experience:

So, I’ve been wanting to get into drinking green tea properly for a while now. I’d always just used tea bags, you know, the usual supermarket stuff. But I saw this beautiful green tea set online and thought, “Why not?” Let’s do this the right way, or at least try to!

Getting Started

First, I unboxed everything. It came with a little teapot, four tiny cups, and a strainer thingy. I’m not gonna lie, I felt pretty fancy just looking at it all. I Then wash all parts with running water.

The Tea Brewing Process

Next, I looked up how to actually brew loose leaf green tea. Turns out, you can’t just dump boiling water on it like I do with my usual black tea. Who knew? The instructions I found said to use water that’s about 175°F (80°C).I also found my cooking thermometer. I figured that would be close enough.

  • I heated the water in my regular kettle.
  • Then, I poured some into a separate cup to let it cool down a bit.
  • I stuck the thermometer in and waited… and waited… It took longer than I thought!

While the water was cooling, I put a spoonful of the loose leaf tea into the strainer that came with the set. I placed the strainer inside the teapot.

Once the water was (finally!) at the right temperature, I poured it over the tea * instructions said to steep it for only 2-3 minutes.I set a timer on my * first time,I totally over-steeped it! It was bitter. Like, really bitter. I had to add a ton of honey just to make it drinkable.

Second time, I followed the timer. This round is much better! I poured the tea into the little *, you know what? It actually did taste better than my usual tea bags. It was smoother, more… I don’t know, delicate?

The Result

I’m definitely still learning. But I’m enjoying the process. It’s kind of relaxing, even with the thermometer and the timer. It feels like a little ritual. And the tea set itself? It’s just so pretty. It makes the whole experience feel a bit more special.I feel like I’ve leveled up my tea game, even if I’m still a beginner. I’m sure I’ll get better at judging the water temperature without a thermometer eventually. Maybe.

I’m thinking about trying different types of green tea * recommendations?
