green tea
Well, let me tell you, I heard some folks talkin’ ’bout makin’ ice cream with them little tea bags. Sounded crazy to me, but they kept goin’ on and on about it. So, I thought I’d try and figure out this here newfangled way of makin’ a treat. Ain’t no harm in tryin’, right?
Now, I like my ice cream, always have. Used to churn it the old-fashioned way, back when I was a young’un. But these days, things are different. They got all sorts of fancy gadgets and whatnot. This tea bag thing, though, that’s a new one on me. Apparently you can use tea to make ice cream!
First thing ya gotta do, I reckon, is get yourself some good tea bags. Not just any old tea, mind you. They said somethin’ about black tea, somethin’ called Earl Grey. Whatever that is! I just grabbed some tea bags from the cupboard, hope those work.
Now, they say you gotta make the tea first. So, boil some water, pour it over the tea bags. Let it sit there for a spell, get all that tea flavor out. Make it strong, they said. Stronger than you’d usually drink it. Okay, I can do that.
Next, you gotta mix that tea with the milk and the sugar. How much? Well, I ain’t sure, just gotta eyeball it, I suppose. Like makin’ a pie, you just kinda know when it’s right. Stir it all up real good, make sure that sugar’s all gone. They say that you can put whatever you want in there too, not just tea. But I am trying the tea first.
Then comes the tricky part. You gotta pour that tea mixture into one of them zip-lock bags. Not too full, though, leave some room. Then, you put that bag inside another bag, a bigger one. And that’s where the ice comes in. You fill that bigger bag with ice, lots of it. And salt, too. Rock salt, if you got it. Makes the ice colder, they say.
Now comes the fun part, or so they say. You gotta shake that bag. Shake it like you’re mad at it! Shake it for a good long time. Ten minutes, maybe? My arms are gonna be tired, I can tell you that much. But they say that’s how you make the ice cream. The shakin’ and the cold, it does somethin’ to the milk and the tea, turns it into ice cream. Like magic, almost.
After all that shakin’, you open up the bag, and what do you know? Ice cream! Or somethin’ like it, anyway. It might be a little soft, not like the store-bought kind. But it will be cold, and it’s got that tea flavor. Might be kinda good, actually. I bet a scoop of that would be good on a hot day.
Now, I ain’t tried this yet myself, mind you. Just hearin’ about it from them folks at the store. But it sounds like it might work. If you try it before I do, let me know how it turns out. I’m curious to see if this tea bag ice cream is any good. Seems like a lot of work for a little bit of ice cream, but hey, who am I to judge? I might just have to try this whole tea bag ice cream thing. I mean using tea to make ice cream is definitely something new. They didn’t have nothing like that when I was growing up. All we had was a big old ice cream churner. And on those days, that churner felt like it weighed a ton!
One more thing, you know those plastic bags they have now? The ones you can seal up? Those are real handy. We used to have to tie knots in everything. It seems like the best choice for this is the ones with the zipper at the top. You know which ones I’m talking about. You just pinch it and slide your fingers across the top and it’s all sealed up. I saw them at the grocery store just the other day.
Anyways, that’s all I know about this here tea bag ice cream. Maybe I will try it today and see how it goes. I still have some tea bags in the cupboard from the last time my neighbor came over for a visit. I think I will get one of those plastic bags from the store too, make sure I have everything. If it is any good, I will make some for all of my friends. They will probably think I am lying to them, but I can just show them! I wonder what other food you can make with tea? Maybe a pie or something? That sounds good right about now actually, maybe I will make a pie this afternoon. Or tomorrow, I don’t know yet.
I hope this makes sense. It is hard to explain things sometimes. But that is how you use tea bags to make ice cream, I think. Maybe I will try it with coffee sometime. I like coffee a lot. That might be really good. We used to only drink coffee on special occasions, but now I drink it whenever I want. I like that. If you try the coffee ice cream before me, let me know. I’m always looking for new things to try. It’s a lot easier now than it was. I remember when we used to have to go down to the well to get water. Now you just turn a knob. It’s crazy how much things have changed. That’s all I can think of for now, I hope this helps!
