Well, let me tell you, this green tea thing, some folks say it’s acidic, some say it ain’t. It’s all a muddle, I tell ya. This here green tea, it’s got a pH, whatever that is, that’s kinda low, like 6 or 7. They say that’s a little bit acidy.
Now, my old bones, they don’t like too much acid. Makes my tummy rumble something fierce. So, is green tea acidic? I heard if you drink that green tea when your belly is empty, it can give you the grumbles. They say it’s got these things called tannins, and those make more acid in your stomach. And too much acid? Oh boy, that ain’t good. You can get the runs, or feel like you gotta throw up, or just plain feel sick to your stomach.
My neighbor, she drinks that black tea. And the fella at the store, he told me black tea got more acid than green tea, or that white tea. He said those two, green tea and white tea, they are better if you want less acid. So if you’re worried about that acid, maybe stick to the green or the white.
And coffee! I don’t drink that stuff no more. Used to give me the jitters. I hear that coffee is usually more acidic than green tea, less than that lemon tea. So, I guess green tea is kinda in the middle there.
But this whole is green tea acidic thing, it depends on how you make it, too, they say. If you want it more acidy, you gotta boil it hot and long. That brings out more of those…poly-somethings and tannins. If you want it less acidy, well, then I reckon you don’t boil it so much.
Now, they say this green tea is good for you, too. It’s got those anti-ox-i-dants, or whatever they call ’em. Good for your health, they say. But if you got a sensitive tummy, like me, maybe don’t drink too much. Or at least, don’t drink it on an empty stomach.
So, is green tea acidic? Well, kinda. A little bit. But it depends. Like everything else in life, I reckon. It depends on how much acid your body can handle and how you make your tea.
I remember my grandma, god rest her soul, she used to say “everything in moderation”. She was talking about moonshine, and I think that’s true for that green tea too. I don’t think that green tea is bad stuff. But just don’t overdo it with that green tea, you hear? A little bit is probably fine. Just listen to your body. If your tummy starts talking back, maybe you had enough.
This whole pH thing, it’s all a bit confusing, ain’t it? They say pure green tea is almost neutral, like 6.5 to 7.5 on that pH scale. But then there’s all these other things, like what kind of tea leaves and how long you brew it… It’s a lot to think about just for a cup of tea!
But there was a young lady down the street. She told me that the acidity of green tea mostly comes from those poly-somethings. And those are supposed to be good for you. So, I guess the acid in the tea ain’t all bad.
It’s a balancing act, like most things. You want the good stuff, but you don’t want too much of the stuff that might upset your stomach. So, to answer that question, is green tea acidic? It’s a bit of a yes and a no. But hey, maybe you don’t need to worry too much about this is green tea acidic thing. Just enjoy your tea, just don’t drink a whole bucket of it, especially when you haven’t eaten.
Back in my day, we didn’t worry about all these things. We just drank our tea and went about our business. But I guess times are changing. Still, some things stay the same. Like listening to your body. It’ll usually tell you what it needs, and what it doesn’t. Even a cup of green tea, your stomach knows if it is too acidic.
