Okay, so today I decided to dive into the world of Li Shan Oolong tea. I’ve heard so much about it, and I finally got my hands on some. Let’s see how this goes!

Getting Started

First things first, I gathered my tea stuff. This included:

  • My favorite teapot, a simple one.
  • A couple of small teacups. Because sharing is caring, right?
  • A tea strainer, of course. Can’t have leaves floating around.
  • And the star of the show, the Li Shan Oolong tea leaves!

The Brewing Process

I heated some water. I didn’t want it boiling, just hot enough. You know, that point where it’s steaming like crazy but not bubbling aggressively. I read somewhere that super hot water can ruin fancy teas.

While the water was heating, I put a good amount of the tea leaves into the strainer. I didn’t measure, just eyeballed it. Probably a couple of big pinches.

Once the water was ready, I poured it slowly over the leaves in the teapot. The smell that came up was amazing! Kind of flowery, but also a little bit toasty.

I let it steep for, like, three minutes. Again, I didn’t use a timer. Just waited until the color looked right – a nice golden-yellow.

Tasting Time!

I poured the tea into the cups. The first sip was… interesting. It was definitely smooth, not bitter at all. It had that floral thing going on, but also a little bit of a sweet aftertaste. I also notice a very smooth, almost buttery finish.

I kept refilling the teapot with more hot water. I heard you can do this several times with oolong, and each time the flavor changes a little bit. It’s like a tea adventure!

My thoughts

It is indeed a great tea! It’s not bitter at all, it’s so great that you can enjoy it with your friends to share, and it will make for a great afternoon tea time with this.
