I’ve been trying to cut back on coffee lately, but I still need that little pick-me-up in the mornings. So, I thought I’d give green tea a shot, specifically Lipton, since it’s everywhere and pretty cheap. But the big question for me was: how much caffeine does this stuff actually have?

First, I grabbed a box of Lipton green tea bags from the grocery store. Nothing fancy, just the regular kind. Then I started digging around online to see what I could find out about its caffeine content. It turns out, it’s not as simple as just a single number.

What I found out:

  • It’s less than coffee: This was good news for me. Most sources said that an 8-ounce cup of green tea has way less caffeine than a cup of coffee. Like, coffee has around 80 to 100 milligrams, but green tea is more in the 30 to 50 milligram range.
  • Lipton’s a bit on the lower end: Seems like Lipton green tea is around 35 milligrams of caffeine per cup. One site even mentioned that if you brew it with just one tea bag in 8 oz of water, you get about 55mg, but if you use more water with the same teabag, it’s still the same amount. That made sense to me.
  • Different types, similar caffeine: I saw that they have different kinds of Lipton green tea, like with jasmine and stuff. From what I gathered, the caffeine levels are about the same across the board for their green teas.

My little experiment:

So, I started brewing myself a cup every morning. I’d boil some water, toss in a Lipton green tea bag, and let it steep for a few minutes. I tried to keep it consistent, using about 8 ounces of water each time.

The result?

Honestly, it was a noticeable difference from coffee, but in a good way. I didn’t get that jittery feeling I sometimes get with coffee, but I still felt more awake and focused. It was a gentler kind of energy boost. Plus, I actually enjoyed the taste of the green tea. It was kind of refreshing.

So, yeah, switching to Lipton green tea has been a good move for me. It gives me a little caffeine kick without going overboard, and it’s a nice change of pace from my usual coffee routine. If you’re looking for a milder caffeine option, I’d say give it a try!
