Okay, so the other day I got this sudden craving for something sweet and refreshing, and that’s when I thought, “Why not try making some lychee green tea?” I mean, I love both lychees and green tea, so it seemed like a match made in heaven, right?

First things first, I had to gather my ingredients. I already had some loose-leaf green tea at home, so that was a start. But I needed lychees. Off to the grocery store I went, and luckily, they had canned lychees in the Asian food aisle. Score! While I was there, I also picked up some hibiscus because I read online that it goes well with this tea. I wasn’t totally sure, but I thought, “What the heck, let’s give it a shot.”

Back home, I brewed a pot of green tea. I usually just eyeball the amount of tea leaves, but this time I tried to be a bit more precise. I think I used about two tablespoons of tea leaves for around four cups of water. Oh, and I also made sure the water wasn’t boiling hot, you know, to avoid that bitter taste in green tea.

While the tea was steeping, I opened the can of lychees and drained the syrup. I took about ten lychees, maybe more, I didn’t really count, and mashed them up a bit with a fork. It wasn’t completely smooth, I left some chunks in there for texture. I also took about two teaspoons of the hibiscus, based on what I read, to use.

After the tea steeped for about three minutes, I strained it into a big pitcher. Then came the fun part. I added the mashed lychees, some ice cubes, and then I poured in about a cup of the lychee syrup from the can. Sweet tooth activated! Then I added my two teaspoons of hibiscus I prepared earlier, I was pretty excited to see what would happen next.

I stirred everything together and took a sip. Oh. My. Goodness. It was amazing! The sweetness of the lychees, the slight tanginess, the floral notes from the green tea and hibiscus, it all just worked so well together. I couldn’t help but pour myself another glass, and then another. Oops, I ended up having like half of what I made.

I also decided to experiment a bit. I found some rose petals that I used to put in tea sometimes, so I put them in too, I think the tea will be better. After trying, the taste was surprisingly good. It’s just what I imagined.

This lychee green tea is definitely going to be my go-to drink from now on. It’s so easy to make, and it’s just so darn refreshing. Plus, it feels a bit fancy, you know? Like something you’d get at a nice cafe, but you made it yourself. If you’re looking for a new drink to try, I highly recommend giving this one a go. You won’t regret it!
