Okay, so today I decided to dive into the world of tea, specifically these two blends: Maharaja Chai Oolong and Samurai Chai Mate. I’ve been seeing them pop up on my social media feeds, and, well, I got curious. Plus, I needed a little pick-me-up that wasn’t my usual coffee.

Getting Started

First things first, I had to actually get the teas. I found a local store because some friends told me. that carried a pretty good selection. I had to grabbed a box of each.

The Experiment – Maharaja Chai Oolong

I started with the Maharaja Chai Oolong. Here’s what I did:

  • Boiled some water: I used my electric kettle, because I like use it. Got the water nice and hot.
  • Steeped the tea: I put one tea sachet into my favorite mug and poured the hot water over it. The instructions said to steep for 3-5 minutes, so I went for the full 5, I like strong tea.
  • The waiting game: The smell was amazing! It’s warm spicy .
  • Tasted it: Once it was done steeping, I took a sip. I can taste the spices, cinnamon and cardamom, I think, but there’s also a smoothness from the oolong. It’s pretty good!

Next Up – Samurai Chai Mate

Now, onto the Samurai Chai Mate. This one’s a bit different because it’s made with mate, which I’ve had, I know it can be a bit stronger.

  • Heated up some water: Same deal as before, electric kettle to the rescue.
  • Steeped it: Again, one sachet into a mug, and I poured the hot water over it. The instructions for this one said 4-6 minutes, so I did 5 mins.
  • Waiting and smelling: This one smells different, the mate gives it a more grassy, earthy aroma.
  • Tasting time: Okay, this is definitely more intense than the oolong. You can really taste the mate, which has a bit of a natural bitterness, but the chai spices are still there. It’s energizing.

My Thoughts

After trying both, I have to say I’m a fan! The Maharaja Chai Oolong is definitely the smoother, more mellow option. It’s perfect for a relaxing afternoon. The Samurai Chai Mate, on the other hand, is more of a wake-up call. It’s bolder and more invigorating.

I’m glad I tried these. It’s always fun to discover something new, and these teas are definitely going to be added to my rotation. If you’re looking for something a little different from your usual tea, I’d say give these a try!
