matcha green tea oreos

Okay, so I’ve been seeing these matcha green tea Oreos all over the internet, and I had to try making them myself. I mean, matcha and Oreos? Sounds like a dream combo, right?

Getting Started

First, I gathered all my ingredients. This is what I used:

  • A pack of Golden Oreos (because the regular chocolate ones would clash with the matcha, I figured)
  • White chocolate melting wafers (you can use white chocolate chips too, but the wafers melt smoother)
  • Matcha powder (make sure it’s good quality, ceremonial grade if you can find it!)
  • A little bit of vegetable oil (just a touch, to help thin out the chocolate)

The Process

First thing I did was carefully separate the Oreo cookies. I twisted them apart, trying not to break the wafers. Some of them crumbled a bit, but that’s okay, I just ate the evidence. 😉

Next, I melted the white chocolate. I used a double boiler (basically a heat-safe bowl over a pot of simmering water), but you can totally use the microwave too. Just make sure to stir it frequently so it doesn’t burn. Once it was all smooth and melty, I stirred in a tiny bit of vegetable oil, just a teaspoon, to make it a bit thinner.

Then came the fun part! I added the matcha powder to the melted white chocolate. I started with about a tablespoon and mixed it in really well. I kept adding a little more until I got the color and flavor I wanted. It turned this beautiful, vibrant green!

After that, I dipped each Oreo wafer into the matcha chocolate, making sure it was fully coated. I used a fork to help with this, and then I placed them on a sheet of parchment paper to dry.

The Waiting Game (and the Result!)

This was the hardest part – waiting for the chocolate to set! I stuck the tray in the fridge to speed things up. It probably took about 30 minutes, maybe a little longer.

Finally, they were ready! I carefully put the cookies back together, sandwiching the original Oreo cream between the matcha-coated wafers. And… they were AMAZING! Seriously, the slight bitterness of the matcha with the sweet white chocolate and the creamy Oreo filling? So good! I definitely recommend giving this a try if you’re a matcha fan. I’m already thinking about making another batch!
