mhw oolong armor

tea ceremony | January 5th, 2025

Alright, so I wanted to talk about something I did recently in Monster Hunter World, specifically regarding the Oolong armor set. Now, I’m not the best player out there, but I really wanted to get my hands on this set, mostly for how it looks, you know?

First off, I had to figure out where to even start. This wasn’t just any regular gear you pick up from the start. It’s a “Master Rank” thing, which, honestly, sounded pretty intimidating at first. So, I did what any sensible person would do – I started grinding those Master Rank quests. I was mostly just messing around and learning as i go.

After I finally got the hang of those quests, I found out that the Oolong set is tied to special tickets. Yeah, you need specific “tickets” to craft it. So now I’m on this new mission to get these tickets. Thankfully, I could see a layered armor menu with tabs for different ranks, and that helped me track down which quests would give me the items I needed.

I specifically focused on the Oolong Boots Alpha+ because I heard they were good. I checked my list, saw what materials were needed. It took a good amount of time, jumping in and out of quests and farming those monsters. I also learned that it’s not just about the materials, but you need some kind of “research points” too. It’s a bit of a grind, not gonna lie.

  • Head Armor: This was a big one. I read somewhere that it’s really good for early Master Rank, so I went after this piece first.
  • Leg Armor: The boots, specifically. I heard these were useful, and they looked pretty cool, so I made these a priority too.

Then there was the whole “layered armor” thing. At first, I was confused – like, what’s the difference? Turns out, layered armor is just for looks. It doesn’t change your stats, just your appearance. So, I could wear my strong armor but make it look like the Oolong set. Pretty neat, huh?

I remember one quest where I had to recover from some status effect to get a temporary attack boost. I did something stupid. And I got hit by every possible blight. I eventually pulled it off, but it was a total mess.

After all that work, switching between quests, and collecting materials and points, I finally had enough to craft the Oolong set. I went over to the Smithy, crafted each piece one by one, and there it was. I had my very own Oolong armor, or at least the layered version to wear over my actual gear.

Was it worth it? For the looks alone, I’d say yeah. Plus, I learned a lot along the way. It wasn’t easy, and I definitely made some dumb mistakes, but hey, that’s part of the fun, right?

So, that’s my little adventure with the Oolong armor in MHW. It’s a cool set, and if you’re willing to put in the time, I’d say go for it. Just be prepared for a bit of a grind!
