Okay, so, I’ve been getting into tea lately, and I wanted to try something new. I heard about this thing called milk oolong tea, and it sounded interesting. So, I went online and started looking around for some to try.

There were a ton of different brands and types, and honestly, it was a bit overwhelming. I saw prices ranging from like, $8 all the way up to $70 or more for just a small amount of tea bags! I mean, that’s a huge difference. I read that it’s supposed to have a floral aroma and a smooth, milky taste, which sounds nice.

After browsing for a while, I noticed a brand called Tiesta Tea. They had a milk oolong that was a loose-leaf tea from China. It said it was medium caffeinated, and you could make hot or iced tea with it. Sounded good, so I checked the price. It was around $20 for 4 ounces. They claimed you could get up to 50 cups out of it, which seemed like a decent deal.

But then I saw another brand, Fonming Tea, that had individually wrapped tea bags. That seemed convenient, especially since I’m still new to this whole tea thing. Theirs was a “Jin Xuan” milk oolong from Taiwan, and it was a bit cheaper, closer to $13 for 12 bags. Also, the description said it is a pale yellow infusion, with a creamy, milky sweet fragrance and smooth.

Ultimately, I decided to go with the Fonming Tea bags.

I figured the individually wrapped bags would be easier for me to use.

  • First, I boiled some water in my kettle. While I was waiting, I opened one of the tea bags and took a whiff. It definitely had a nice, floral smell, just like they said.
  • Once the water was boiling, I poured it into a mug and dropped in the tea bag.
  • I let it steep for about 3 minutes, maybe a little longer. I wasn’t really sure how long to steep it for, but I figured that was a good starting point.
  • After steeping, I took out the tea bag and took a sip. The color was a light yellow, just like the description mentioned.
  • The taste was actually pretty good! It was smooth and did have a subtle milky flavor, even though there’s no actual milk in it. There was also a light floral taste, which was pleasant.

Overall, I’m happy with my first experience with milk oolong tea.

The Fonming Tea bags were easy to use, and the tea itself was enjoyable. I’ll probably try some other brands in the future, maybe even some loose-leaf versions, now that I’m feeling a bit more confident about making tea.
