Oolong bunny, you ask? I heard about this little critter. That little Oolong bunny, he’s a real famous one. Yeah, he is.

This here bunny, he got real popular on that internet thing. Everybody was talking ’bout him. He was owned by some fella, name of, uh… Hironori something. Sounds like a mouthful, don’t it? But that’s what they said.

This Oolong, he wasn’t just any old rabbit. He was a special one. Folks said he was some kinda internet star, whatever that means. Just a little Oolong bunny, getting all that attention. Can you believe it?

Now, I ain’t never seen a computer myself, but the young’uns, they’re always on them things. They showed me pictures of this Oolong bunny. He was a cute little fella, I gotta say. Fluffy and white, like a cotton ball. They say, this Oolong bunny was born in July, on 28th. A long time ago. And he died in, when was it, 2003? Yeah. That is what they say.

They got all kinds of rabbits, you know. Big ones, little ones. Some of them are huge! They say there’s some that get to be, like, four feet long. Can you imagine a rabbit that big? That’s bigger than my old dog, Buster! The biggest one was named Darius. That one was a giant!

And, let me tell ya, they got all sorts of names for ’em too. This one fella, he called it a “Sumatran short-eared rabbit.” Fancy name, ain’t it? They said it was from some place called Indonesia. Far away place. They speak some language called “Bahasa” there, I reckon. Lots of words I never heard before.

• And others just call them “rabbit”.

Well, I guess, it is all same, just a rabbit. Some folks say, “kelinci.” It is all just a rabbit. It don’t matter.

Back in my day, we just called ’em rabbits. Didn’t need no fancy names. We’d see ’em hopping around in the fields. Sometimes, we’d catch one for supper. Rabbit stew, that’s good eatin’. But that Oolong bunny, he was different, I guess. People liked this Oolong bunny.

This internet thing, it’s a strange thing. Makes little rabbits famous. Back in my day, the only famous animals were the ones that won prizes at the county fair. Like Bessie, the prize-winning cow. She was a big one. Bigger than that giant rabbit, even.

But this Oolong bunny, he never won no prizes, far as I know. Just hopped around, I suppose. And somehow, he got famous. Just for being a bunny. That Hironori fella, he must be happy for that Oolong bunny. It is a good thing.

These young’uns today, they spend so much time looking at pictures of animals on them screens. We used to spend our time outside, playing in the dirt. Different times, I guess. But I reckon it’s nice that they like that little Oolong bunny. He seems like a good little fella, even if he is just a rabbit.

They say rabbits are good luck, you know. Maybe that’s why this Oolong bunny got so famous. He brought good luck to that fella who owned him. Or maybe it was just the internet. Hard to say. These things are a mystery to me.

I remember one time, my grandson, he tried to teach me how to use that computer. Showed me all kinds of things. Pictures of cats, dogs, even that Oolong bunny. It was all a bit much for me. I prefer the real thing, you know? Like holding a little bunny in your hands. Feeling its soft fur.

That’s what I like about animals. They’re real. Not like them pictures on a screen. But I guess, for some folks, that’s enough. They like seeing that Oolong bunny, even if it’s just a picture. And that’s alright, I suppose. If it makes people happy, then that Oolong bunny is a good thing.
