Okay, so I’ve been trying to figure out this whole calorie thing with oolong milk tea. You know, it’s my go-to drink, but I figured I should probably know what I’m putting into my body, right? So, I started digging around.

My Little Experiment

First, I grabbed a bunch of nutrition labels from different brands. I wanted to see if there was a big difference between them. Turns out, not really. Most of them are pretty close in terms of calories and stuff. Most of them were pretty much the same.

Then, I decided to make my own oolong milk tea at home. I brewed some oolong tea, added a splash of milk, and a little bit of sweetener. I used a kitchen scale and measuring cups to make sure I know exactly how much of everything I was putting in.

According to the USDA, here’s what I found in general:

  • Net Carbs: About 0.15g. Again, super low.
  • Protein: A tiny bit, around 0.1g.

But here’s the thing – that’s just for the tea itself. When you start adding milk and sugar, that’s when things change. A splash of milk can add a few more calories, and depending on how much sugar you use, it can add up pretty quickly.

So, I tried a few different versions. One with just a tiny bit of milk, one with a little more, and one with my usual amount of sweetener. I logged everything, did the math, and you know what? It wasn’t as bad as I thought. Even with a decent amount of milk and a bit of sugar, it was still pretty reasonable.

My takeaway from all this? Oolong milk tea, especially if you make it yourself and watch the milk and sugar, isn’t that bad calorie-wise. I’m definitely going to keep enjoying it, maybe just being a little more mindful of how much I add to it.
