This oolong temp, oh, it’s a big deal! You gotta get it right, or your tea ain’t gonna taste no good. I remember back in the day, we just threw the leaves in hot water, didn’t think much ’bout it. But now, everyone’s talkin’ ’bout this oolong temp thing.

Hot Water for Tea

So, I heard from the young folks, they say you gotta use different oolong temp for different teas. Like, if it’s a light oolong, you use less hot water. I seen ’em say 180 to 200 on that there Fahrenheit. That’s like 82 to 93 on that other one, Celsius, they call it. Now, that water ain’t boiling, you see. Just real hot, but not bubbling.

Then there’s them dark oolongs. They like it hotter. They say you can go up to near boiling, near about 190-200. Hot, hot, hot! I guess it gets all the flavor outta them leaves. If you use water too hot, it gets bitter. Nobody likes bitter tea.

What Temp to Use?

  • Light oolong: 180-200 Fahrenheit (82-93 Celsius)
  • Dark oolong: 190-200 Fahrenheit (88-93 Celsius)

I tried it myself, you know. Got me one of them thermometers, the kind you use for cooking meat. Stuck it in the water, waited till it got to the right number. And you know what? That tea did taste better! Smoother, like. Not so harsh on the tongue. Now, you gotta watch it though, don’t let that water get too hot. That’s like cooking, just gotta be careful!

More Tea Tips

Some folks, they even rinse them tea leaves. Pour a little hot water on ’em, swish it around, then dump it out. They say it cleans off the dust and wakes up the leaves, I do not know what that means. I tried it, didn’t notice much difference. But maybe my taste buds ain’t so good no more.

That green tea, well, it’s a whole different story. They say it is best to use cooler water for that. Like 70 on that Celsius thing. I don’t drink much green tea, but that’s what I heard. I stick to my oolong, mostly. It’s what I like.

How to Brew

So, here’s what you do, far as I can tell. Get your water hot, but not boiling. For them light oolongs, not too hot. For the dark ones, hotter. Then you pour that water over your leaves. Some use those fancy pots, some just use a cup. I use whatever I got handy.

They say you let it sit there for a little while. Some say 30 seconds, some say longer. I just let it sit till it looks like tea, you know? Then you pour it out, maybe through a strainer if you got one, to catch the leaves. Let it cool a bit. Don’t want to burn your tongue!

This oolong temp stuff, it ain’t so hard. Just gotta pay attention. It’s like cooking. You gotta get the heat right, or it don’t come out good. So, next time you make some oolong, think about the water. Don’t just boil it. Get it to the right oolong temp, and you’ll have yourself a mighty fine cup of tea. Trust me, I been drinking tea for a long time. I know a good cup when I taste one!

Oolong is good for you, I think. I drink a cup almost every day. Maybe two cups. It makes me feel good, so I keep drinking it. I like the dark kind, mostly. It has a strong taste. The light kind is okay, but I like strong. You should try it, it might be good for you too!
