peppermint and tea tree oil

Okay, so, peppermint and tea tree oil. I’ve been meaning to try a DIY concoction with these two for ages, mainly for a little something to help with my pesky headachy feelings, you know? So, I finally got around to it last week.

First off, I went to the store and picked up a bottle of pure peppermint essential oil and a bottle of pure tea tree essential oil. I made sure they were both 100% pure, no fillers or extra stuff. I wasn’t looking to add any extra complexity, just the basics.

Next, I found a small, dark-colored glass bottle. I figured dark glass would help protect the oils from light, keeping them fresher longer. Makes sense, right? I also grabbed a tiny funnel – those things are lifesavers for pouring small amounts of liquid.

Then came the mixing part. I started by researching online and found a recommended ratio of about 5 drops of peppermint oil to 2 drops of tea tree oil for every tablespoon of carrier oil. I chose jojoba oil as my carrier – it’s pretty gentle on the skin. I measured out about 2 tablespoons of jojoba.

  • Using the funnel, I carefully added the peppermint oil to the bottle. Counted those drops, five of them.
  • Then, I did the same with the tea tree oil, two drops.
  • Finally, I poured in the jojoba oil.

I put the cap on the bottle and gave it a little shake. Not too vigorously, just enough to mix things up gently. I then labeled the bottle clearly with the contents and the date – because, you know, essential oils do have a shelf life.

To use it, I just dab a tiny bit on my temples and the back of my neck whenever I feel that headache coming on. It’s not a miracle cure, but it definitely seems to help ease the tension. Sometimes I just smell it directly from the bottle – the scent is really refreshing.

Overall, it was a really simple process. I’m happy with the result so far. I’ll definitely be making another batch when this one runs out. Maybe I’ll try adding lavender next time – just to mix it up a bit.
