Alright, let’s talk about these smoky teas. I ain’t no fancy tea expert, mind you, just a regular person who likes a warm cuppa. And let me tell ya, some of these teas, they taste like you’re sittin’ right by a campfire.

What are these smoky teas anyway? Well, near as I can figure, they’re teas that got that smoky flavor. Some folks call it “Lapsang Souchong,” sounds all highfalutin, but it just means smoky tea, I reckon. They say it’s a Chinese black tea, and they make it taste smoky by drying it over pinewood fires. Can you imagine? Smokin’ tea leaves! It’s kinda like how we smoke meat back home, gives it that extra somethin’ somethin’. They call it Zhengshan xiaozhong in Chinese, but that’s too fancy for me, I’ll stick to smoky tea.

Now, some folks love this smoky stuff, some folks can’t stand it. It ain’t for the faint of heart, that’s for sure. It’s strong, real strong. Like, if you ain’t used to it, it’ll knock you sideways. But if you like that campfire taste, well, you’re in for a treat. It’s like drinkin’ a warm hug on a cold night, you know, when you’ve been out choppin’ wood all day.

  • Strong flavor: It ain’t weak, I’ll tell ya that much. One sip and you know you’re drinkin’ somethin’ serious.
  • Smells like a campfire: Close your eyes, take a whiff, and you’re practically in the woods. Reminds me of those long winter nights, sittin’ by the fire, tellin’ stories.
  • Good for ya, maybe?: I heard tell it’s got stuff in it that’s good for your body, somethin’ called “antioxidents.” Keeps you healthy, they say. And somethin’ else, “polly- somethin’s,” good for your heart. Now, I ain’t no doctor, but if it tastes good and it’s good for ya, well, that’s a win-win in my book.

You can find this smoky tea in lots of places, especially them Chinese markets. They got all sorts of teas there, but this one, it stands out. You can smell it from a mile away, practically. And it ain’t always just plain ol’ black tea neither. I heard tell of folks smokin’ other kinds of tea too, even yellow tea. Can you believe it? Yellow tea with smoke! I ain’t tried it myself, but I reckon it’s somethin’ else.

Why do people like it so much? Well, I reckon it’s ’cause it’s different. It ain’t your everyday cup of tea. It’s got character, it’s got kick. It reminds ya of somethin’ real, like sittin’ outside, feelin’ the earth beneath your feet. It’s a strong flavor, yes it is, not like that flowery stuff some folks drink. And maybe it’s that campfire smell, takes you back to simpler times, you know? Before all this hustle and bustle.

I remember one time, my neighbor, old Mrs. Higgins, she came over for tea. I gave her a cup of this smoky stuff, and she about jumped outta her chair! “What in tarnation is this?” she says. “It tastes like burnt wood!” Well, I just laughed. Told her it was special tea, good for what ails ya. She wasn’t convinced, but she drank it anyway. And you know what? By the end of the cup, she was askin’ for more! Said it warmed her right up. That’s the thing about smoky tea, it grows on ya.

So, if you’re lookin’ for somethin’ different, somethin’ with a bit of a punch, give smoky tea a try. You might hate it, you might love it. But one thing’s for sure, you won’t forget it. And who knows, maybe it’ll become your new favorite thing. It ain’t fancy, it ain’t delicate, but it’s real. And sometimes, that’s all you need.

Where to get it? Like I said, them Chinese markets are a good place to start. And some of them fancy tea shops, they might have it too, but they’ll probably charge you an arm and a leg for it. Just look for somethin’ that says “Lapsang Souchong” or just ask for smoky tea. They’ll know what you mean. And if they don’t, well, maybe they ain’t worth their salt.

Now, I ain’t sayin’ it’s a cure-all or nothin’. But a warm cup of smoky tea on a cold day, it just makes you feel good. It’s like a comfort, a little bit of warmth in a world that can be pretty cold sometimes. So go on, give it a try. You might just surprise yourself.
